There are tons of games on the Wii that are appropriate for a 5 year old.

No games come with the Wii unless you get some kind of package.

You have to buy an aftermarket cable to connect component.

http://www.amazon.com/Wii-HD-Link-Co...9705616&sr=1-1

You can download the old Mario games and play them for a small charge.

There is built in wireless connectivity in the Wii.

The sports disc alone provides hours of enjoyment. I believe it comes with the system.

You have a strap that are on the end of the remote that you put around your child(s) wrist and cinch it up so that the remote doesn't fly anywhere.

Buy some plexiglass !

My four year old tries to play on the Wii but it always ends with me helping him. It's still fun and even I'm thinking about buying another Wii for him and my parents.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use the wrist straps. They can and will save your expensive TV.

I play Wii with my seven year-old boy all the time. He's a Mario Kart prodigy, that one. Pretty funny. I have no idea where he gets it.

As mentioned, the games that come with the system in the Wii Sports disc are totally kid safe, with the only possible exception being the boxing if you feel it might be too violent (but it's not a gory game by any means).

Also, as mentioned, there are several games available for download through the Wii's internet shop. Check out this link on Wikipedia for a complete list of available games and corresponding prices.

I'm not sure if you were even interested in Bubble Bobble for the original NES, but they've revamped it and made it a downloadable game for the Wii. One of the modes is the same game as the original, but with some updated sprites and backgrounds; the overall game is "the same," though. It's similar to what SNES did back in the day with Super Mario All-Stars, if you remember that.

Um, no. Mario Party is not online-capable.

Mario Kart is.

And Wii Sports comes with the system.

My 3 and 6 yr old girls loved it.

They are 5 and 8 and still play. I just got them Wii Sports Resort. They'll be hooked on that for a while.

OP- how about you try to keep your kid as far away from the screen addiction for as long as possible.

the kid will have it's entire life to stare at various screens and monitors, let it play like we used to play as kids.

don't kids play with regular toys anymore....parents can't even drive around without having a lcd in the car to distract the kids so they don't have to "parent"

I urge you to re-visit your post in about 18 months.

Also, in all seriousness, there is a great deal of educational DVDs, etc., out there. Additionally, if I put on The Wiggles, my 3 year old dances, sings, etc. She doesn't dance and sing with her Barbie dolls.

P.S. She LOVES when I play Wii.

the only thing my kid will watch is old school Sesame Street, before that ***** Elmo took over.
