His Silence Was More Powerful Than Words.

Winner of 6 Academy Awards including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture (1966)! Sir Thomas More (Scofield), England's Roman Catholic Chancellor, is forced into a difficult position when corrupt King Henry VIII demands approval to divorce his wife and marry his mistress.

Torn between his conscience and duty to the crown, Sir Thomas chooses to say nothing, sparking the rage of the king. What unfolds is a battle of wills packed with palace intrigue, political brinksmanship and the fate of man, church and country. In the end, his silence spoke loudest of all.

I too have been waiting for this for several years. I was hoping another company would put this out, but knowing that this was a Sony Pictures release I thought that TT might get it. I was worried that it might come out while I was not buying from them. Now that I am able to resume buying from them, I will be able to get it after all. My collection is almost complete.

Excellent. That leaves only one best film Oscar winner from the sixties still awaiting a Blu-ray release...Tom Jones 1963.

An update from TT (via HTF):

Regarding A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, we have no scheduled release date yet, but are hopeful of mid-2015. Grover and his stellar team are currently prepping the restoration, and so you all know the results will be more than worth the wait!

Haven't bought much Twilight Time due to a combination of cost and their not releasing much that I'm over the moon about. The latter seems to have changed. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia was my first, and I'll definitely be day one with Moby Dick, Zardoz, and A Man for All Seasons.

I am glad TT got this and it is coming out at last. But Sony is worthy of a few choice curse words. They release Ishtar themselves, but not A Man for All Seasons. At least they thought enough of From Here to Eternity to release it. They keep so little anymore and the "logic" of what they keep and what they give away makes no sense. Fortunately Sony has Grover Crisp to oversee their masterful transfers. They are still the best in the biz at that.

I wish Sony had kept it, but I can somewhat understand on this movie. It is all dialogue. There is no action whatsoever. Back in 1966, before computer graphics, the veiwing public was willing to watch such a movie. However, in todays world with all the movies geared to teens or young adults who want a lot of action, I don't think that there will be such a rush to buy this as was the case for the Blob and other horror movies TT has offered.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great movie, but a dialogue movie about a man with a conscience and integrity with a strong religous convction who will not bend to the whims of public opinion is not the norm in today's world.

It will be interesting to see how fast this sells out.

All you have to do is compare a book best seller list from 50 years ago to now to see how dumbed down the culture has become.

Another 2015 TT title to pick up I guess. So far I'm in for The Bride Wore Black, Fright Night, and Love and Death.

Good points, and I agree. Same view can be applied to The Lion in Winter. Both films were based on stage plays.

Now that I am thinking about it, the mid-1960s to early 1970s had quite a run of English monarchy-themed historical dramas with stage antecedents.....Anne of the Thousand Days and Mary, Queen of Scots are two others that come to mind. Both are Universal properties, I believe. I haven't seen those two since they were on local broadcast TV many years ago. I really developed a liking for these smaller, dialog and drama driven historical films which, while different from the larger epics like Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago, were to me every bit as enthralling to watch. Some of that has to do with my interest in the time periods but also to the quality of the scripting and acting.

I liked A Man For All Seasons so much I bought a book of Robert Bolt's play.

I too like to see this period of English history in film, though I don't know enough of English history to know fact from exageration or outright fiction.

The German release of (Anne Of The Thousand Days) is region-free.

I'm in for A Man For All Seasons.

FWIW, PBS will be airing Wolf Hall with the Cromwell role played by Mark Rylance beginning April 5th and concluding the Sunday before AMFAS is released.
