Microsoft recently launched a tempting partner program for its Bing search engine. By installing the Bing toolbar (which appears to only be compatible with Windows rigs running Internet Explorer) and using it to search or taking part in daily promotions, you can earn Reward points. Notably, this form of fake currency can be easily exchanged for another: Microsoft Points.

The program allows you to trade in Reward points for Microsoft Points in 100-point denominations -- though it's unclear how quickly one can accumulate these points. We do know that installing the Bing toolbar earns you 250 points from the get-go, of which 200 can immediately be exchanged for $2.50 worth of Xbox bucks. So what's the catch? There doesn't appear to be one

i installed and tried it yesterday. easy points for just clicking a link or searching nonsense. the only thing is that the 200 points that i redeemed for m$ points has to go through an approval process which can take some time.

if i remember correctly, sign in with your LIVE tag. be sure to verify your personal contact info.

edit: be sure to also check the current offers blade when you click on the point button after install. there are things to click on and get addition 6 points. i got 38 points for searching and clicking yesterday on top of the 250 for installing. may take some time to get something good from LIVE but the points add up. also got another 8 points for searching today. no addition offers yet

This reminds me of their Bing Cash Back program, which they have discontinued this year. There was a wait time involved with approval - I think 60 days? It's cool if you use it, and the best part is there isn't a catch. Free stuff is always good.

Yes, I guess there is then. I don't have an Xbox or use IE so this really doesn't entice me to this at all. I wish they'd bring back the Cash Back program though!

It appears to work in Firefox as well... I just installed the toolbar in IE to claim some points (earned 200 M$ Points just for logging in) and when I closed IE and went to Firefox the Bing toolbar is there and is showing the points I have remaining... Not sure if you need IE to download the toolbar or not but you don't need to use it to earn points...

just redeemed for another 100 points. total so far redeemed for is 400 m$ points. still waiting though but free points, cant complain. also noticed that there is a limit of 30 per account so thats a total of 3,000 points that can be earned.

Strange, but my Bing toolbar has disappeared from my Firefox browser... No bigger, I'll just use IE to get my 8 points and switch back...
