Default The Top 9331 movies of all time

http://politiken.dk/kultur/film/article930832.ece
I used google translate and fixed some myself...

Quote:
It took Brad Bourland of Austin, Texas, nine years to make a list of the 20 Century 9331 best,
most important and most beloved English-language films.
The project began back in 2001 when Bourland, who works in a supermarket in Austin,
set out to make a list of century's best films 200-300.
But the list exploded when he wanted to make all the movies justice.

The list from 1927-1999
Nine years later, he has spent more than 1600 hours in libraries in three different states,
thousands of hours at the computer and have read 110 books on movies.
The list count English-language films from 1927-1999.

Quote:
"It began as a hobby, but at some point I realized that if I had to do it, it should be done properly.
I was about to give up a thousand times where I thought: This is crazy.
But 90 percent of the time, I almost could not wait to get on with the list,"
said Brad Bourland for salon.com.

Number one on the list is the movie 'Casablanca' from 1943.
And number 9331 is 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' from 1959.

And the list is not completed until after the rounds of the 10,000 movies.
Brad Bourland has deliberately left the last good 600 seats on the list remain open so the public can help him to complete it.
He stresses that it is not a personal list, but pieced together a list of what audiences, film critics and film industries seem.
"I have not rated these movies personally, but spent hundreds of hours of reading what the professional movie critics think about them," he said.

The personal favorites.
'Being John Malkovich' number 502 on the list, according to Brad Bourland century's most underrated film,
while John Carpenter's 'Starman' number 1057 on the list is Bourlands own personal favorite.
"I wish I could put it higher on the list, but it is unfortunately not possible" he said.

Over the past five years, he managed to see 6000-7000 of 9331 films:
"I would like to have seen them all, but unfortunately there are some of the older British and Australian films that are hard to come to see the U.S. '

I really don't see the point of any of that. It's just a humongous list that means nothing.

Well, any movie list means nothing anyways

Well, not in my opinion. I like reading top ten lists and such, but ranking 10,000 movies? That seems beyond overkill.

One of the black & white classics, like Casablanca and Citizen Kane, always wins. Just once, I'd like to see a list with something nonsensical at the top—like Bad Boys 2.

Plan 9 From Outer Space last on the list? Ed Wood would be proud!

I love the number 9331 I mean could they not stop at 9000 or go to 9500, why 9331?

Then just read the first 10 on the list, and pretend it's a "Top Ten" list

EDIT:

it's interesting, but I wish he would have included "non-English" language films..... then stats could be pulled out like % of films in this/that language etc......

You could already do some cool stuff, like Genre-Break-down, actors/directors, Year, Color/B&W etc.

Lists like this are subjective of course but I applaud this gentleman for putting in the time and effort to do this.

It's not his personal list, he has read countless reviews from critics and tried to come with a list that shows the overall consensus.
Though it can't possibly be accurate.
