First, it seems my Logitech controller does not work with RB6.. only the stock PS3 controller will. It is kind of annoying because the joysticks on my Logitech feel much more accurate than the PS3. Is this just my issue or is anyone else having problems with non PS3 controllers.
Also, I have read some PS3 games support keyboard and mice as controls. My key/mouse is completely unresponsive when I run RB6. Does this need to be turned on anywhere? I was hoping since this is a PC game at heart the PS3 version would support key/mouse controls. Aiming with a mouse is so much faster. Last, What does everyone think the best controller for FPS is? This is maybe borderline preference question but I am curious what others are using and like. Thanks |

Ya one thing that bugs me is it does not tell you who is talking like in Resistance. After playing with a group for awhile you can kind of figure it out usually.. but very annoying. This game is basically holding me off until Socom 3 later this year lol.

I have Resistance and my brother in law brought over RB6V last weekend. Next to the Marvel hereos game, RB6V has to the worst PS3 game I have ever seen (downloaded games not included). The frame rate is horrible. The online play is almost unplayable. When I first saw the game I had to double check the case and make sure that he didn't buy the PS2 version. Really, really bad. Hard to believe anyone thought this game was ready for release. It looks and plays like an early beta version. This game is a rental at best.

It is not a next gen game. You can't fault it for this.. just a little research shows that. The graphics are easily good enough to not effect the gameplay.. and the animations are still really killer. This game is in the 20$ bin for PC so it has been out for awhile.
People play RB6 for the strategic shooter style online play similar to Socom.. and it is really good at that. It is my favorite PS3 game right now. Restistance online is just meaningless running around and killing things then you respawn and go do the same. RB6 is different in that most matches when you die - you are out until the next round. This makes your moves more critical and the shoot-around-the-corner idea in this game is very successfull even over Gears of War. The maps are also killer. You play on teams and teamwork is often critical. You build points and rank and unlock different weapons. You can heavily customize your character as well. It is very strategic and often quite competitive. I would rather play RB6 online over Resistance by a long shot.. They are two completely different style of shooters.. |

Ok, to the first question... 3rd party peripherals (particularly controllers) have always been spotty at best when it comes to compatibility with any Sony Console. In fact, I've had no good experiences when using such controllers dating back to the PS1.
Second question... Keyboard and Mouse has to be a feature that is enabled specifically for the game, by the programmers. To date (and anyone feel free to correct me on this) only the upcoming Unreal Tournament 3, for the PS3 has full K&M support on a console shooter. Third... Me personally, I prefer using a controller for FPS games. I know a lot of PC gamers swear by the use of Keyboard and Mouse, but pointing and clicking at a target seems somehow... cheap to me. In my opinion, it takes no skill to point and click a target, as opposed to having to track the same target with a reticle that stays centered on your screen. Having said that, I'd probably get owned badly on a K&M game, all things being equal. Also, my friend's nephew that grew up on console shooters, tried playing a PC shooter (Quake, I believe) using a K&M, got destroyed online. After he was given a controller that had been configured to the game, he did reasonably well, finishing top 3 on many matches. Lastly, I own both Resistance and Rainbow6. Yes, the framerate and graphics on Resistance are very good, moreso than RB6. However, I personally prefer tactical shooters over run and gun, respawn, fragfests, like Resistance. It's not to say, I didn't have fun playing Resistance, it's just not my cup of tea. RB6 has it's share of problems, particularly where online is concerned... spotty mics, inability to easily find friends online, poor servers. Also, one thing I really, REALLY hate on shooters... respawn. Respawn games blow... but that, again, is just my opinion. To summarize, I had fun with Resistance, but I enjoy Rainbow6 much more. |

^^ i agree with borrowedtime.. at first resistance was my favorite game..u played until u rank up.. but that game was jus run and gun. and i found out that i dont enjoy those games much.
as for strategy..i like using my brain to actually figure a way out to complete a map..etc..instead of using my brain to see how accurately i can point my gun. anyways ..excluding all the random respawns of enemy in CO-op terrorist hunt.. i really enjoy RB6v over resistance...Resistance contains good graphics..and enjoyment for the ppl whom like run n gun. (impatient gamers) :P both have their pros n cons.. ![]() |

RB6 is actually better than resistance online as in less boring to play (more tactical).
However due to the fact it is nearly impossible to play RB6 online for any length of time resistance wins out due to better servers. If you could play RB6 on the ps3 like I play it on my 360 it would be awesome. I have both games on both systems and it sucks to keep booting up my crap box just to play RB6. |

I think RB6 is way better than Resistance. I don't know what some people are talking about concerning framerate, I never experienced any slow down except when my clan is goofing around and we play a pistol stand off match where all 14 people are running around in the middle. Even then it's very minimal. It's a slower paced game than Resistance, maybe that's what confuses people, but I played it a lot on the 360 as well and I don't notice a difference.
The only thing I hate about this game is that there is no server screen and you can't pick which game you want to join from a list like you can on the 360, but Resistance was set up the same exact way, so as far as PS3 online experiences go you'll have to wait for Warhawk to get server screens (finally). RB6 has been rumored to get a patch so you can see the server screens soon. I hope this is true. As far as bugs, RB6 definately has some, but there is only one that bothers me, and even then it happens maybe once a week to me (even less if I don't play everyday). Sometimes while you are in an online match it will randomly boot you back to the game's main menu. I've owned the game for a month and a half and it has happened maybe 3 or 4 times. It's annoying when it happens but it's rare enough for it to not keep me from the game. As far as lag in RB6, you get some with 14 players sometimes, but mainly if you play with people from over seas you'll see it. It will be the same story with Resistance as it is a hard thing to avoid. The only other complaint I have is that the load times can be long sometimes. But if you stay in the same game with the same map for a while there are virtually no load times, so it helps out a little in that respect. That's all the negatives I can think of at the moment. I might be lucky and rarely experience the bugs and hardly ever get lag or something, but I have plenty friends who don't get that much either, so I guess it's luck or some people are drama queens. I experienced more lag in Resistance by far. Last edited by Jaren613; 08-09-2007 at 06:15 PM. |

I was a big Resistance fan and played it almost daily up unitl the last update when they put the delay on for quiters. I would routinely get put in completely unfair ranked matches. If I quit out, I would have to wait 3 minutes to join another match.
At that point I rented R6V and really liked the game although the graphics weren't that great. The online matchmaking wasn't as good as RFOM's and all the kicking ended up in my decision not to buy it. I'm hoping Ghost Recon is better in these areas as it's stupid to make a fun game and ruin it with little problems that are so easy to address. Resistance has the same issues with unfair ranked teams, no control of ranked maps you play, and enemies respawning behind you. After a while, these annoyances just take away from the game too much. |
