Unhappy Much needed Blu-ray re-releases.

Here's a list of titles which merit re-releases. Be it shoddy transfer (DNR/EE only since film grain is SUPPOSED to be there! Don't even argue against this as this thread is for film grain enthusiasts), earlier/current releases which use MPEG2, mediocre extras, lossy audio (for the original audio track) and so forth.
This list isn't exhaustive as it shall only contain titles I'm interested to own in my collection.

BEETLEJUICE - 20th Anniversary Edition MY @$$! You can't call an anniversary edition by sticking everything from the DVD release and just mediocrially putting on TWO episodes of the animated series! Needs a re-release. Perhaps a brand-new commentary, extensive extras WITH Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder and everyone else they could get their hands on! I'd only buy this shoddy release when it goes to $6.99 or lower.

Battle of Britain - Well I'm glad this can be purchased for cheap since I'll be treating this as a third disc for the 2-Disc edition I own on DVD. Misfire release.

BLACK RAIN - Early Blu-ray release. Would just want a re-release with better video encode (uses MPEG2, right?) which would fit onto BD50 and also a lossless audio track. Throw in the Japanese exclusive extras, subtitle them and you bet I'd buy this release.

A Bridge too Far - What I typed for Battle of Britain applies here.

CAST AWAY - Maybe this would be the same situation as for FROM HELL but I'm going to look more at DVDCompare.net for finalization.

FROM HELL - Actually this would be misleading as the Blu-ray disc is actually just the first disc from the 2-Disc Edition. If one already has the 2-Disc Edition in their collection, just use the Blu-ray as an "upgrade" for the first disc and problem solved, for now.

Mission: Impossible Trilogy - An offender of MPEG2 and lossy audio which also are on BD-25's. Needs re-release using either VC-1 or AVC, DTS-HD Master Audio and BD-50's. All extras remaining the same. MIGHT happen for Mission: Impossible IV.

The NeverEnding Story - I mean come on, JUST the theatrical trailer is the sole extra?! I would've had BOTH versions of the film via seamless branching, commentary and special features with practically EVERYONE involved in the film, extensive storyboards, concept art and more. Probably I would've made it a 2-Disc set without a digital copy. Of course I'd use DTS-HD Master Audio for both the original audio tracks, no fake 5.1 bump-up remix.

PATTON - Although I haven't seen this title in a very very long time, HEAVILY EXCESSIVE DNR/EE is uncalled for for ANY film on Blu-ray which uses celluloid! Needs a remaster and a disc exchange program.

Planet of the Apes (2001) - I got this in the (1968)/(2001) dual pack and I'm just using it as a third disc in my 2-Disc Special Edition. Needs to be released with all features included, NO ECO BOX!

PREDATOR - I'd actually buy the current release if it ever fell under $9.99 Where are all the extras from the 2-Disc DVD? Third-disc treatmeant?

RoboCop - C'mon, my purchased 20th Anniversary Edition in the Steelbook DVD release is far superior compared to this shoddy release! Needs to be BD-50, lossless original audio, BOTH versions of the film via seamless branching and ALL the extras from the release I mentioned in the first part of this.

RONIN - Where are the extras from the Collector's Edition DVD?

The Terminator - Special Edition perhaps? I'd have the original theatrical audio, which is monaural, be MANDATORIALLY lossless and the fake 5.1 remix to be lossy. Zero DNR/EE, retain the original intended color palette/tinting for the film, have all extras from the Special Edition and then some. Instant purchase, especially if it uses the original font from the film for the design layouts, menus and etcetera.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day - I'm just going to buy the Japanese 2-Disc release (EXPENSIVE!) compared to the DNR/EE infested Skynet Edition. Maybe even wait until 2011 for a better release for the 20th Anniversary?

To be continued...

Default Se7en on Blu ray and a few more!

Fincher should give the superior Se7en the treatment that he lavished on Fight Club and then just port the commentaries and extras from the 2 disc special edition released back in 2001, maybe add some other new bits a full length retrospective would be great to discuss the impact this film has made good or bad.

Surely a decent version on Se7en is well over due, I know there is a vanilla disc out there but I'm not double dipping on this just to get the film especially when Fincher could give it the same deal we got with FC last year, I believe there are issues with the vanilla although it's an improvement on the DVD which at the time was remastered etc with 6.1 DTS Track, Curious Case & Zodiac look superb on Blu and the Game would be nice not so bothered about Panic Room though.

I've edited my post as Se7en is already released it is relevant I've removed the others.

The OP is talking about Blu-rays that already need a re-release, not titles that need a Blu-ray release.

Damn right!

I'll update my first post. I don't care for Star Wars anymore.

Any "news" and rumors from The Digital Bits for use in any of my threads aren't worth the bandwidth for their site. Meaning I don't rely on them for anything and I'll wait for some more official news either from here and/or other sites.
I'm still working on my original post.

A codec which was developed for DVD shouldn't be used for Blu-ray disc. Only AVC and VC-1 should be.
Hey, out of everyone who's posted in this thread, none of them are in my ignored list.

So any news on a re-release of Se7en then?

Default City of God

I saw this film at a local art theater with my bro back in early 2003, not knowing what to expect (only hearing that it was a unique foreign film) and I walked out of the theater thinking to myself, "Wow that was EASILY one of the best movies I've ever seen, maybe the best ever in a theater." Great storytelling, unique/original, amazing cinematography, great action/violence (real not over the top sensationalism or being violent just to be violent), great characters, funny at times, touching, sad...EVERYTHING you could ask for in a movie. This was (Along with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon in 2000) what got me into Foregin films. Since then Old Boy, Lives of Others (masterpiece), Pans Labyrinth (awesome), Amores Perros, Amelie, House of Flying Daggers (loved it), Kung Fu Hustle, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Let the Right one In (original subtitle version only, not dumbed down US original Blu Ray), Hero, Tell No One, Gomorrah, Akira Kurosawa/Miyazaki/Wong Kar-wai/Fellini/Truffaut/Bergman. Point being is once you really get down to it some of the best movies ever made and City of God should be any foreign film fans top 10 EVER (hands down)

For me, City of God is in my top 10-20 post 1970 movies FOR SURE (non animated as I also love about 5 pixar classics, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc) in there with Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, Taxi Driver, Godfather 1/2, Pulp Fiction, any Coen Brother film (Favorite is Big Lebowski which is the only one in my top 10), Lives of Others, Pan's Lab, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon/Hero/Oldboy/House of Flying Daggers, My Cousin Vinny, Thin Red Line, Apoc Now, Jaws (original is still perfect example of tension), Braveheart, LA Confidential, etc.

My favorite movie this year is District 9 may be in there also or at least top 30 (along with Up in the Air, Zombieland, Fantasitc Mr. Fox, Up, Hangover, The Hurt Locker, and Inglorious Basterds).

OK I'm rambling like Crazy, but I assume most reading everything above would agree that they love most or all above and pretty much all of them (other than Pulp Fiction, Big Lebowski, Thin Red Line, Apoc Now, Jaws, Taxi Driver, and CITY OF GOD are out on Blu Ray!

Who agrees all those listed above would be great on Blu Ray, ESPECIALLY CITY OF GOD who has some of the best cinematography EVER put on film?

Is Cidade de Deus already on Blu-ray? If not this thread is for titles which need to be RE-RELEASED as better editions onto Blu-ray disc. "Double dipping" as some people put it!
The post before yours got the intention of my thread correct since there was a Region A release of SE7EN from Alliance Atlantis so it does fall into my particular thread intent. Doesn't anyone ever read the original post anymore?

Let the Right One In - I had to replace my domestic release for the Region B release that has the correct theatrical subtitles. It's really baffling to me that this hasn't been corrected domestically yet.

Dawn of the Dead - The Ultimate Edition DVD was one of the best archival sets on the format, in my opinion. It's a shame that the BD release didn't include all of the alternate versions and special features. For now I have to keep the DVD alongside my BD.

It's expensive, but the best release of T2. Get it.

That's why I'm hesistant about importing from Japan. The price!
I'm not listing The Last Samurai since the Hong Kong release has a Dolby TrueHD track.
And with TOTAL RECALL, the UK Blu-ray beats the USA Lionsgate out of the water in terms of PQ and AQ. Same for THE THING. The USA is BD25, Audio commentary and just a PiP track. The UK is a BD50, audio commentary and ALL extra features. Now which release would a fan of this film buy?

It has been corrected but Magnolia is not doing an exchange. You are responsible for buying it again if you want the better subtitles.

I would like the Lionsgate Blu-ray Discs re-released with consistent artwork. Don't change the content of the discs because that is unncessary. Just re-package stuff like War, Waiting, Rambo, etc. in non-foil packaging that matches the new Lionsgate releases. Oh, and make sure the SRP is jacked up five to ten dollars.

There's always custom covers but of course your mileage (sp?) may vary.

Really? I hadn't heard they'd finally released a corrected version. Really sucks they won't do an exchange though...
