Default Who's The New Conan? Final Three!

I really don't like any of these choices. I like Padalecki on Supernatural but not Conan, and a gay sparkling vampire? HELL NO! I have no idea who the third guy is though.

Quote:
Earlier in the week, word was that the casting for the main role in Marcus Nispel's upcoming new Conan the Barbarian epic was down to just three contenders, the third of whom was a mysteriously unnamed "established" actor. That third man has now been outed, and the shortlist can be (reasonably) safely revealed.

In the blue corner is Jason Momoa: the dreadlocked Hawaiian best known as the badass "melee warrior" Ronan Dex in Stargate Atlantis.

In the red corner is Kellan Lutz, who was most recently seen as the vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight and New Moon.

And in news broken by his own fansite (which we hope is actually accurate and not just wishful thinking), in the I've-worked-with-Marcus-Nispel-before corner is Jared Padelecki, star of TV's Supernatural and last year's Friday 13th.

Clearly the new film is skewing young, which isn't actually necessarily heresy: Robert E. Howard's original stories span Conan's life from when he was a young thief to when he finally wore the jewelled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. But for anyone (ie most people) for whom Conan is irrevocably Arnie, any of the above three will be a wrench.

Of the three, Momoa is perhaps the one who'd be most at home in a Frank Frazetta painting. And we can just about, if we squint, see Padelecki in the role. - although apparently he may be unavailable, since filming clashes with his wedding. Lutz though? Surely not...

Shooting is scheduled to begin in March in Bulgaria. Source

So this isn't about Conan O'Brien? My "Isi, Conando!" t-shirt came in the mail today after ordering it Friday night and missing it yesterday, two freakin' business days! Not bad, NBC.

Ugh. The two Arnie Conan movies weren't great, but this is just pain.

Oh, and Kellan Lutz isn't Edward Cullen. It's Emmett Cullen.

Actually, I was corrected online when I mentioned the news. Figured I'd pass it on.

lol Yep he was the dad. I almost p*ssed myself when I saw him in it. I will not watch the 2nd one, so if any Twilightheads want to chime-in and let us know if he's in the sequels, that'd be vamptastic.

I'm SO pissed all of those actors look terrible.

When I first saw X-Men 2, I thought the Colossus guy would of been a perfect Conan.

As much as I like Padelecki on Supernatural I've never liked his film roles, and the other 2 are beyond HORRIBLE. I love how they can't narrow down what look they even want, they have a surfer boy, a farm boy, and a rastafarian.

I will pray to Crom, that this picture doesn't get made. All choices for the lead are pretty bad, imho. And if Ridley Scott isn't directing, what's the point? He's great at these types of movies. Either way...I'll pass on this newest old idea, from the great Hollywood think tank.

Ugh. This isn't looking good. First you've got a director who can't direct. Then you're casting the wrong guys for the part. And they're trying to make it young and hip. Oh no. The best thing that could come of this is that surrounding the hype Universal finally releases the Arnold films on Blu-Ray.

You know, every big star starts somewhere. I wouldn't rule someone out just because he got a job on a female-geared franchise or a cult TV show when he was just starting out. Any one of these actors could mature into a big box office draw some day. You never know. And the idea of starting with a younger Conan that they can hopefully build a franchise around for years to come sounds perfectly fine to me. We'll see.

The problem is looking at pictures of those guys except for Momoa they would have to add 50 pounds of muscle before making a believable Conan. The only one I've seen act is Padalecki I think he could do it, not like Arnold was ever a great actor either.
