Question Buying a larger plasma TV

I've been a big fan of plasma TVs for quite a while. I currently have 37" panasonic plasma TV I bought about 5 years ago. I would like to have a larger screen now, between 60" or 75".

I've been reading and am still not sure what the best 60+ plasma TV right now. Is it still PRO-151FD Pioneer Elite 60" plasma TV? (I understand Pioneer no longer produces these anymore, but there are some still available for purchase.)

Thanks so much in advance for any insights.

The 65" V10 should be released within weeks. You'd be very pleased with it.

Wow, this may be just what I need. Panasonic 65" V-10. Cool. I'll hold off on buying the Kuro 60" then. Thanks very much.

58" Panasonic V10 $2700
60" Pioneer KRP-600M $3000
65" Panasonic V10 $4000

All would be great.

I really can't mount the TV on my build-in cabinet. So, I will need a stand. I won't need speakers because I have surround sound built-in speakers already. I read that it is not easy to find stand for 600M and if I do, it would be around $400 or so.

I suppose I can wait a little bit longer and get even a bigger screen size, 65" panasonic would be stunning. I hope it will be close or even better than 60" kuro.

Hot topic. Overall, the Kuro still seems to garner worship. Many reviewers say the V10 is a worthy replacement, though...so to go for the 65" would be a fine move.

Damn...can't even imagine a 65" V10. Would be a sight to see.

If you can find a stand for the KRP-600M its the best set you are going to find for the money. You can easily find the set for under $3000 which is a steal. With the stands being pretty scarce wall mounting may be your only option for this set. You can check over on avsforum since there is a sponsor that is still helping people secure these sets and the stands. If you can't get a stand and you absolutely need one then you can look at getting a 6020FD HERE for less than $3500 shipped. If you want the biggest bang for the buck then the 65" V10 is supposed to sell for $4000. Its not going to give you quite the picture of a Pioneer, but its reasonably close. You need to decide if a slight trade-off in performance is worth the size increase. Personally, I would stick with Pioneer but that's just me.

Add service after the sale to everything else the Panny has going for it...personally, I'd stick with Panasonic...but that's just me.

I have an opportunity to get a PRO-151FD 60" pioneer at a great price (the catch is the window of opportunity is for tomorrow only). But, again, with about the same amount of money I could wait a little bit and get 65" V10 panny. And, I've read great things on the new panasonic V10 TVs.

Right, because Pioneer is not going to offer anymore support.
Too bad the KRP has a better picture than the V10. Oh, that's right! The V10 is "King of the Hill".

Panasonic does have an excellent reputation for customer service with their warranties, but Pioneer does too so I wouldn't say that Panasonic has an advantage there. I'm a current Panasonic owner and I love my set, but before the week is out I plan on moving it into the bedroom to make way for the KRP-500M that's to be delivered...if it makes it here intact that is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't be one of the unlucky ones that have to await a replacement. Looking over the damage thread on avsforum it seems that the new packaging has greatly decreased this problem so hopefully the first delivery is a charm for me. Anyhow, I'm sure that whichever set you go with you'll be happy since Pioneer and Panasonic both make great TV's.

Have you run the same barrage of tests that he has and concluded differently?

Thanks for the link. Thought this particular paragraph from his conclusion was worth posting here:

The only place in the article where he even mentioned the Pioneer 141 (apparently his reference monitor) was that he felt the V10 was "consistently creating more “pop” to the image" in visual contrast and that "the Pioneer sometimes obscured dark details that the Panasonic presents." The guy then mentioned "Panasonic’s V10 provides comparable or better performance in nearly every criteria of image quality (only mentioned visual contrast and dark detail), at less than half the retail price (50″ vs. 50″) and can be regarded as a worthy successor.

As for price, which seems to be the main reason that he dubs the V10 the new king, it's not clear what model he is referring to. The 101 or the 111? While they can be up to 2x the price, the 500M can be had for roughly the same price as the 50" V10.

I can even mention the recent shoot out where the 500M was the clear cut winner, but I won't go into detail about it.

On one hand, so many people including me love the 60" elite Kuro, mostly because of its black level. On the other, I could potentially have 65" v10 for a little cheaper - bigger size and lower cost with comparable picture quality, although really not as great as the kuro?

Well, today is the day I need to make this interesting decision of which one to buy.
