Default Between the UN55B8000 and the LG55H90..Better option

I can get either for roughly the same price.

Which would be the better buy.

I hear great things for both but not sure which would be slightly better since both are the same size and about the same price

I know the LG is local dimming and the 8000 is edge dimming but also heard the 8000 is fantastic.

I know the 8500 is much better but that is way out of my price range

Thoughts

I game a lot and watch sports a lot

I noramlly avoid LG like the plague, but i would probably say the LG given those 2 options. Only because of the local dimming. the picture on the 8000 is gorgeous, but i havent seen it in dark areas so i know how how great or not the black levels are. I can tell you the 8500 is awesome though

Thanx for the feedback

I do love how the 8500 is but I want the 55 and that is like 3500 dollars

I can afford the 46 but that is rather small. the price of the 46 is about the same as i can get for the 55 lg or 55 Samsung 8000

What you think

is giving up the big size worth it for the 46 inch 8500

Well its hard for me to say.. the 46" is plenty big for me, but im also using it for a bedroom. At the end of the day, the most important thing is to get what you want. Sounds like you wanted the 55' so id stick with that. The LG seems like a great set, if you can get that for a good price i think id stick with that

I feel you

I just cannot trust LG since I know nothing about it.

So you would say that in order you would take

8500 any size
LG55H90
Samsung 8000

correct

Go with Samsung since they have better black levels than LG.

A friend of mine just got the LG, he personally loves it. He has it hooked up to the PS3, It all comes down to personal choice though. Go to Best Buy and compare the two.

The 8500 is only at Magnolia, but it seems like everywhere else except here has one

I want the 8500 but can't afford the 55 inch

The 46 is to small for my liking

I will have to go for the LG55H90 or the LN52B750

Here is a review of the 55LH90 by a professional calibrator (Chad B).

I forgot to mention that the tv is ideal for people who love calibrating tv's.

Honestly you cant go wrong with either tv. They are both very good. What comes down to in the end is what you can afford and what you like.

If you can afford it, I would go with the 8000. The B750 isn't a lightweight either so either way, you'll win.

Look at PCMag's HDTV survey and you will see that LG has only a 2% repair rate while Samsung has an 8% repair rate. All of the negative perseptions of LG is just totally unfounded.

I've owned an LG myself for nearly two years without one single issue other than lackluster black levels which is why I moved on to plasma. Of course my LG was a standard LCD and not LED backlit and at the time there weren't many LCD's that had great blacks.

Read the Chad B. review and you'll see that he considers this LED backlit LG to be one of the top three sets available. The B8500 gets the edge, but the LG is only a hair behind and its considerably cheaper.

I did read Chad's review and I saw the tv at best buy. The only issue is that they had it on the aisle with an LG promo playing and not on the main room with the regular cable program

It did look very good but I kept on going back and forth between the LG and the LN52B750

and the B750 just looked sharper and blacks were just as good if not better

that was to my eyes. Not saying how it would be in my room

I also saw the B8000 which looked great therefore I told myself Samsung all the way

but i read that the 8000 has issues due to edge lit....so i am torn between the LN52B750 and the 8000

That's the reason why I'm telling the OP to get the Samsung.

That was a standard CCFL LCD from two years ago, so that doesn't even apply now. I might add that it was very color accurate and blacks were fair for the time. The LH90 has excellent blacks when calibrated. The B8500 is only slightly better, but its also a good $1500 more which is not justifiable IMO for the extremely small gain. Read Chad B.'s review. Again, he places this set in his top three best with only the B8500 edging it and the Kuro of course taking the top spot as always.

I read the cnet review of it and they gave it 4 out of 5 stars so I guess you're right then.
