Default HD quality questions

I have a HD TV that displays at 1080i but I've heard some people claim that 720p is better then 1080i is this true, if so could you explain how?

also I heard people talk about the quality in audio differant not that the audio is uncrompressed but I really can't hear it is there something I should be listening for time fully realize the clarity of uncrompressed audio?

1080i is interlaced, 720p is progressive, progressive shows fast moving images more clearly, however I found that watching movies in 1080i they look better, while games play better in 720p, all preference really.

I would get into the really technical aspect but you can google it if you would like high detailed info on the subject, but this was just the basics.
