Default Robert Downey Jr versus Christian Bale?

Who nailed the tortured billionaire playboy/vigilante better? Personally I think Downey did and should've won an Oscar for doing so, as well.

Tony Stark Vs. Bruce Wayne.

I wouldn't know which one to go for. They are both great in their own way, one pulled off a perfect African American Style character and the Other pulled off a perfect Anorexic character.

Thanks for making this a hard one to decide.

VS.

Tough Choice! However C.B. has had 2 very fine performances and R.D.J. has had 1 for us to view. I'll reserve my pick until Iron Man 2 comes out.

In terms of the actors themselves....although RDJ has had a longer career and it's been wrecked and rebooted over and over again...I'll have to go with Christian Bale. Bale has had better luck with movies lately. Bale has done both Batmans, American Psycho, and dropped to dangerous levels of weight for The Machinist. RDJ has done great with Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, and Sherlock Holmes. (And probably Iron Man 2) But then again, RDJ was nominated for an Oscar because of Tropic Thunder. Christian Bale has never had an Oscar nomination....

Downey Jr. has been nominated twice: Tropic Thunder and Chaplin.

Robert Downey Jr. gets my vote. Even though I don't like his Stark character. I just like more films with him in it. American Psycho is a hard one to beat though...Just hate Christian Bales recent work. He needs a voice coach. Batman and his John Connor voice is ridiculous.

I like both a lot and be a hard pick, but if its between RDJ Tony Stark to CB Bruce Wayne I'll go with Christian Bale. I like his Bruce Wayne, not so much his batman voice though. I also prefer his movies such as The Prestige and American Psycho.

Downey Jr. hands down. Bale (too "wooden" as Wayne) still can't compare to Michael Keaton. Sorry!

No contest. Robert Downey Jr., captured the billionare playboy Tony Stark perfectly.

I'll be nice and not go into the numerous problems with Bale's Bruce/Batman.

Bale/Batman. Since Stark is just an imitation of Bruce Wayne anyway and Iron Man is kind of a knock-off character from Batman, you have to give it to the original and more mature character of the two - Batman/Bruce Wayne. Plus, Bale is a better Batman than Downey is an Iron Man. It doesn't really take anything to be Iron Man since it's mostly CG. But Bale has to actually act in the suit and give a performance as Batman. And as for Stark and Wayne, Stark is a pretty shallow one-dimensional character whilst Bruce is very much a tortured soul with serious identity issues. This is the best way to put it - when Bruce Wayne is playing playboy Wayne of Wayne Enterprises, he's Tony Stark. That part of him is just an act. I think that says a lot about this kind of comparison.

Wow..I have to agree with Kryptonic (for the first time ) I think Bale was much better in his role. Now having said that I think both were not that great by any stretch of the imagination.

RDJ.

At least he doesn't have to gargle with gravel in order to get his 'super hero' voice on.

I think it's pretty much a tie for me, I enjoy both performances, but I prefer Nolan's Batman movies to Iron Man.

I'll go with Bale. His Bruce Wayne is more down-to-earth. The Stark character is a more flambouyant, larger-than-life crazy dude, which is cool too in its way.

Well said. I would have to agree with your analysis of the characters but in the grand scheme of all things Hollywood though, I would have to say the Downey is a better actor overall.
