Um,

Why wouldn't you just use your Beatles CD's and load those into itunes?

???

Or better yet,... Forget MP3's and listen to the CDs. They sound a lot better.

1) There are some albums I don't own; I'll buy them through iTunes.

B) I think they sound the exact same. Plus, it's hard to carry my decades-old CD player while I'm mowing the lawn, running, flying, etc. Much easier to have my entire collection on a tiny iPod.

4) A lot of fans have been waiting for this for a while; don't crap on the parade.

All of my music (with the exception of a few old-school vinyl LPs) is computer based, purely for convenience. I play through USB to a Peachtree Nova, so the sound quality is impressive to say the least. But, yeah if you own CD format, why bother...

While I understand this is great news for Beatle/Itunes fans, it is not that great deal in my opinion... I was one of the few who could score the boxset last year in Amazon for $99 (during Black Friday) so the price does not seem as attractive considering these are compressed mp3 files... in any case I would throw in a few bucks more and get the discs, then rip them through itunes into my Ipod... but that's just my opinion, to each his own

The CD box set is $129 on Amazon right now.

Cheaper, better quality, and I can still import them into iTunes. Only downside is no instant gratification.

Well, for fans who don't want the entire collection, they can now purchase individual Beatles tracks for $0.99 each.

You can't do that with a CD.

$149 is a terrible price. The cd set costs $129.99 at amazon. which can be ripped and imported into iTunes. Second, no they don't sound the same. There's a big difference between 16bit PCM cd audio vs compressed 256kb files. Of course you won't notice the sound difference when using crappy ipod earbuds. The better the system however, the worse the iTunes tracks will sound. So maybe for you they sound the same with your low end equipment but in general the best sound in order from best to worst would be : original 60's vinyl, vinyl 2011 reissue (which hopefully gets released), beatles stereo usb with 24bit flac files, 2009 cd remasters, .... then iTunes). If your happy that's great, just don't be misinformed.

A true beatles fan wouldn't buy individual tracks since practically everything they released was amazing. For today's music that's much more applicable to choose one or two tracks.

Well,... if they sound the same to you, ok. They sound a lot different to me.

Anyways,... You can take the CD's and make MP3's out of them using itunes. So the bringing your CD player with you doesn't apply.

You can also make apple lossless files out of the CDs but if you like listening to MP3's you wouldn't want to do that.

To me CD's sound a lot better. I have an iPhone and an ipod but I still ignore the whole Mp3 stuff.

LOL. How can I be "misinformed" about my own tastes? (Also, there's a bit of irony about being called "misinformed" by a person who doesn't use proper grammar...)

Also, I appreciate your knowledge about "true Beatles fans" and what they will or won't buy. Time will tell how well these things sell.

Very true, fair point that I didn't consider. I thought you were simply bashing the merits and use of portable music.

That's really not fair to use iTunes sales as a barometer since major beatles fans already own the usb or cd set and would have no use for this. What honestly did you expect on blu-ray.com members in response to your thread? Blu-rays offer optimum pq and lossless audio. Naturally then optimum quality wanted for music would apply.

It's not my thread, I was just quick to support the OP when the off-topic threadcrapping began.

I consider myself a "major" or "true" Beatles fan (whatever those terms mean...), and I have use for it. I don't own the Past Masters and there are a few tracks I'll purchase rather than buying the whole thing.

Oh, I know, I know -- they're vastly inferior and I'm screwed with my low-end equipment.

Have their cd's and LP's already.

Don't need to buy them again from iTunes.

I heard this took so long to happen because of disputes about the "Apple" bussiness name. "Apple" was the original record label for the Beatles and they were having a legal dispute over it's use and so on.

I know a lot of people love Mp3's and even more people simply love anything from "Apple."

In my case though I've always had the Beatles CDs since the 80's ... In fact,.. I need to replace mine with more recent remasters.

My wife buy's Mp3's, I think she like the convience and that's more important for her. I love CDs (and moreso SACDs) .

And,.... I'm sorry my post was taken for off topic threadcrapping.

I assumed Beatles fans owned the music already and in most cases they do.

If you have the CDs .... You can easily have the MP3s if you want them.

If you missed the CD format, you missed something good.

You're only "screwed" per say if you use high end equipment because you'll notice the sound quality difference more. Oh and please don't talk about grammar when you use words that don't exist.

Funny how big of a deal Apple is making this, when in the scheme of things the addition of The Beatles' catalogue really means nothing more than a paltry sum of revenue. They've been trying to get the rights for this catalogue since day one, but Apple Corps wouldn't bite, so now that they have it they're making a huge deal out of it...much like they do with everything else. The hoopla surrounding this announcement will generate some quick returns from now until after Xmas.....then it'll die off.

I was hoping the special announcement would be application oriented. The Beatles, like any other catalog, is one I prefer to have on CD than "Itunes".
