How do people get selected to be moderators? are they compensated? Ive always wondered what the "criteria" is...

At least that's how it worked on IRC once...

Seems like a "need to know" question/answer. When you really need to know the answer you will already be a moderator.

I have always wondered how the Mods became Mods? Were they asked to due to their contributions on the forum or did they request. I'm not hinting at anything

I've wondered this myself. The vast majority of mods here seem to make a sincere effort to be fair and non biased, but there are one or two who are extremely partisan and allow it to affect their modding a great deal.

Just my opinon... JasonR and Big Daddy were known for their contributions in the audio, HT forums. They were very helpful and got a great reputation, as they became an asset to the forum they were promoted. Deci is very knowledgeable about all kinds of technical developments relating to the movie industry and he has been a mod since I got here. JWB was very well known for his contributions in the Trading and Hot Deal Forums. Pro-b is a very well known movie reviewer and his selection for Super Moderator is an obvious one. Beta Man was also a knowledgeable contributor in the Movie/ HT forums... Basically all of the mods have been around for a long time, are complete gentlemen, and have made significant contributions to blu-ray.com. As for any aspiring mods, it appears that the plate is pretty full right now.

So what you're saying is, there needs to be some type of policy instituted that once a mod reaches their 30th birthday they are "removed" from existence? I can read between the lines.

That's not true..... but it certainly sounds better than the morally compromising way in which I got this pesky title which comes with all of the headaches.......
