Hey,
I got The Crazies from Netflix today on Blu-Ray and noticed sound ONLY came from the center speaker, which turned out to mean it was 1.0? I noticed on Clash of the Titans it says 2.0....what does this mean? Is it a stereo audio???? Please someone help me with this. I have no idea what these 1.0 and 2.0's mean... |

I'm guessing you got the 1973 version of The Crazies, and in that case it was probably filmed with a mono soundtrack. I guess you would be correct calling that 1.0. Stereo is 2.0. In the case of 2.0 I know most receivers can matrix the sound into 5.1. I'm not sure about a mono track though. I've never looked into that. Are there no other audio options on the disc? It's common for alot of older movies to have the original mono or stereo soundtrack on the DVD release, as well as a newer remixed or remastered DD 5.1 track.

English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 French: Dolby Digital 1.0 Spanish (LA): Dolby Digital 2.0 Spanish (ES): Dolby Digital 1.0 That's everything the disc has. I took this information off of Blu-Ray.com's listing of the film. I might just stream it from Netflix if I can't get a full surround track. I hate this...it sucks. ![]() I lost a lot of the edge while watching The Crazies. It was my first time seeing it and I felt like I could've been more into the movie with a surround track instead of just hearing sounds from the center speaker. I really hated this...I don't know what they were thinking. |

The film was originally filmed with a mono soundtrack. Everything will be "front and center" and for this film that is fine.
Most older films that are released by their original studios where they have access to the original film material, including the original audio masters, can be upgraded to 5.1, but even then those 5.1 mixes are still pretty "front heavy." Many independant/cult/underground/whatever films were produced by smaller film companies that most often have long gone out of business and the original audio may be lost and when these films are released on home video they are forced to keep the original mono mix since they simply don't have access to the material needed to "upmix" the audio to 5.1 While stereo film soundtracks existed earlier, they truly didn't become commonplace until the late 70's when the summer blockbusters like Jaws, Close Encounters, Star Wars, etc. came onto the scene. Hell, even Jaws was originally mono. The Crazies was released by Blue Underground, who whenever possible have in the past always provided a 5.1 or 7.1 upmix/remix. The fact that they released this title in mono only most likely means they did not have access to the original audio masters needed to create the surround mix. If something is 1.0 it is definitely mono. 2.0 mixes can be either mono or stereo surround depending on the title. If it is mono PLII will send everything to the center channel, if it is stereo surround PLII can matrix a 5.1 mix. Last edited by Beaner666; 02-24-2010 at 04:02 AM. |

For 2.0 mono both my Pioneer and Onkyo automatically enable Dolby PL and send the signal to the front center. The Onkyo gives me the option of using DTS Neo:6, but that also sends the signal to the front center. |

I went up to my left and right speakers. Put my ear to it, nothing. Went to my rear speakers, put my ear to them...nothing. Went to the center speaker, put my ear to it, and it's playing. Every sound was coming through the center speaker and nothing else. My reason for HATING the audio for The Crazies and why I now won't be renting the original Clash of the Titans and will just be watching it on Netflix streaming. |

Not if it's a 1.0 soundtrack. 1 channel audio goes to the center channel only. |

I prefer to keep 2.0 in just the left and right, but I have it set so my receiver plays mono tracks in "all channels", so I hear the same thing in all 5 speakers. Some receivers can do this and others can't. See if you have such a setting.
