Default Audessey & sub

I just ran my Audessey setup. All the speakers came out fine except the sub. I can't hear it when playing a movie. Should I increase the sub volume via the AVR or on the sub it's self?

I would increase the volume on the sub first and then run back audessey...

Might be a good idea to set that volume knob behind the sub halfway for starters.

Thats where I'm at now. Starting to sound much better. Think I just have to tweek it a bit. Should I leave the roll off frequency @ 90? The dial goes from 50-150

Turn the dial all the way up to 150 and set the cross over at 120 in your receivers settings

Much better. The fronts & centre were off also. They were set to small. Believe we're good to go. Thanks!

You do want your fronts set to small, unless you got Awesome front speakers, meaning that they can go below 50hz, otherwise you will be sending all frequencys to your fronts even if they cant handle them and that can cause distortion or clipping or worse. So most people set there fronts to 80hz and sub to 120hz. Thats most people, but if you got better fronts you can turn the frequencies lower and let them produce some bass, but most of the time you would want the sub to play the Bass, and the fronts to be more of midrange and highs. But do what sounds best to you

Ok, I'll reset the fronts to small. I assume the centre as well?

I see you have an Onkyo as well. How do you change the setting to 80hz for the fronts? Mine is an Onkyo 507.

you should be able to go into speaker configuration, and change each speaker to the desired "hz" setting. On my 706 i go into setup mode then speakers settings then speaker configuration and i can change all the frequencies from there

Once you change the crossover to 80hz for your left, right, center and surrounds and have them set to small I think you will see a nice improvement in sound

With my Onkyo 507, I don't have the option to set the HZ rate manually for each speaker. It is done via Audessey. I phoned Onkyo when I could'nt find a way to adjust the hz in ea. speaker. I'll run it and we should be good.

Thanks again all!

That's a little odd. I used to have an Onkyo 605 and I could set separate crossovers for the mains, center, and surrounds. However, the 600 receiver is one step up from the 500 receivers so tht feature may not be included until the 600s and up. Either way, set everything at 80Hz.

The only option to change the crossover is for the sub. Which I have at 120. No other options available manually.

Well if thats the case, keep your sub at 120, and let audessy do its thang.

And if you want to change your frequencies ever, it looks like you will need to upgrade your receiver my friend.

After reading about your 507, it doesnt have the options to do so.

Ok, thanks. The 507 is only a few months old. I don't see an update for quite a while. LOL
