Default Lee (2024)

Quote:
In a development that makes for as hot a package as you’ll find at the Virtual American Film Market, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Andrea Riseborough and Josh O’Connor will join Kate Winslet in LEE, the Ellen Kuras-directed film about the wartime experiences of Lee Miller. Miller traded a glamorous career as a Vogue cover model and muse to artists like Man Ray for a dangerous career as a WWII photographer who chronicled the fighting on the allied front lines and exposed the atrocities that Hitler’s Nazi Germany perpetrated on Jews in concentration camps. Can we have original titles instead of just one name?

The cinematography and grading makes it look like one of those cheap made-for-TV BBC movies, which is funny because the director is also a cinematographer that previously worked with Martin Scorsese, Michel Gondry, Sam Mendes and Spike Lee.

The Life of Lee Miller could of easily been a prestige 2-3 episode Miniseries back in the day.
That Woman's life is so interesting. From her relationsip with Manray

To the fact that she was so close to Picasso.

They missed an opportunity to tell a much bigger story.

I haven’t seen the film in awhile, but I don’t remember much if any subtitled dialogue. Most of the characters we see are English or American. I don’t remember any German characters.

The only moment I do remember is Lee speaking to a French woman accused of collaborating. I can’t remember if that bit had subtitles, but Lee does translate it for the American soldiers, some nusnce might be lost, but you won’t miss much.
