Default I need help picking a 42 inch LCD HDTV... new to this =)

Ok so My options are either Walmart or BJ's Whole Sale Club.

I want a 42 inch LCD HD TV (for under $1,000)

Which is the better brand...

Vizio, Philips, Sharp, Sanyo, RCA, Sansui, or Sylvania

What should I be looking for? The cheapest one is Sanyo, it's $598
I know I want this to be FULL HD 1080 TV as well.

I am just so confused with this lol.

Also what is the differents between an LCD and a Plasma?

Off Topic:
I am also getting my first Blu-ray Player! and BJ's has a Sony one for $199.99 and I believe it does a lot of stuff. I do not need a PS3 because I do not play video games. This one does have Blu Live (I believe that's what it's called lol) and I can get Wifi as well. It does a lot I think. I am also confused on this as well.

Hey man of the brands you listed I def say Vizio. def get 1080p especially if your getting a bluray player! I would say get a lcd just based off personal preference.

The blu ray player sounds great. wifi is always good especially if you have netflix!

I mean, of those brands, i say the Sharp. I would actually scale down to a Sony 36", but that is just my personal brand recognition.

Many of the brands you named are too new to the game to know how long they perform well, IMO.

If you can look around and see if any stores in the area have Hitachi......they are a great value and performer for well under $1000.

I would say no (really, no bias). They make good tv's and probably don't get the recognition that they deserve. If you look for the right deal, you can find a 40" Sony 1080p 120hz for around $800 and a 46" for $1K. You just have to be patient.

You can go on amazon and get a 42inch LG for around $800. You also don't pay for tax or shipping. LG is on par with Vizio and slightly better that Sharp. If you don't mind forking over 1100, you can get a very nice 40" Sony or Samsung that will BLOW all those other tvs out of the water.

You didn't mention a model number of the BD player, so there is no way we can help you on that. Just make sure it's profile 2.0 and read some reviews on it, if you follow that advice, you'll be fine.

Ok so I ended up with a Samsung 46inch LED 1080P 120HZ for $1,299.99.
I purchased this at Best Buy.
What do you guys think of this? I still have the get the HD cable box. The picture looks AMAZING still even with out the HD cable. I did get the cable to get the full HD picture. I just can't hook it up because I don't have the HD cable box like I said before. I also got a surg power switch the guy suggested as well.

I also got the Sony Blu-ray player for $179.99 but I have to exchange it tomorrow because when I pick it up, I hear something inside that is rolling around and that's not good lol.

I purchased the Samsung LN46B530 around Xmas time for ~$800. And apparently Best Buy no longer stocks it or this model has been discon'd.

If this is going to be a major investment for you that you want to last for years, IMO you gotta go with Sony or Samsung.

Yeah I completely agree with you that it should last you for years which is why I would gravitate more towards Sony.

I would say that it depends on which Sony you were looking at. For the price i seems that it would be a 60 hz tv and leds are capable of much richer colors then lcd and also reqire less enery. Plus they are just sexy. IMO. Best Buy cant keep them in stock at that price.

That's why I got it for the richness and the less energy part. =)

I LOVE the HD experience I get on the TV! Even if the movie isn't in HD, my TV still picks it up and gives it a nice clean picture. It's like you are on set with the actors lol. You can even see all there makeup and pimples lol.

LED TV's ARE LCD TV's. The difference between standard LCD's and LED LCD's are the lights used to illuminate the panel from behind to give you the picture. Standard LCD's use really tiny CLF's or Cold Cathode lights. Think of a long fluorescent tube, but shrunk down to the size of a pencil.

LED lit TV's use Light Emiting Diodes. They are brighter, produce richer colors and last many times longer. Not to mention more compact.

So, all LCD TV's are LCD. The only difference is what's used to illuminate them.
