Default What is the best blu-ray player out there?

Hi all, for my birthday I'm wanting a new blu-ray player since the one I have now is a memorex and it's not really good. I'm just curious what blu-ray player is the best out there now as far as the brand and price? Thank you!

From everything I've read about Blu players, this is accurate.

I assume you guys have a strong argument for this, because I have a feeling that this thread will soon be full of people looking to put your beliefs to the test. Good luck lol

If you want to play games, I would say a PS3, if your only going watch Blu ray movies the Oppo BD 83 is the way to go.

Denon DVD-A1UDCI at $4499.99 or Marantz UD9004 at $5999.99 or McIntosh MVP881 at $7999.99. The later two are Denon A1UDCI clones(Marantz has tweaked analog audio stage). Best picture and sound from a Blu-Ray player.

Denon DBP-4010UDCI at $1999.99 is a close second in terms of picture quality.

Pioneer BDP-09FD is an excellent player. Similar to Denons in performance and faster loading. Mates very good with Pioneer recievers(jitter free audio).

Sony BDPS 5000ES at $1999.99 is an excellent player as well.

Sony BDPs 1000ES at $999.99 is on par with the Oppo.

Oppo BD-83 at $499.99 is as good as Denon 4010 for picture, very close in sound quality(Oppo Bd-83 SE is even closer). Lexicon BD-30 at $2999.99 is a Oppo BD-83 clone with THX certification(possible software tweaks)

Playstation 3 is the best bang for the buck(it does everything!)

LG BH200 from 2008(you can find used ones) super-blu is superb in DVD upscaling and blu-ray playback(when it plays blu-rays lol) You can easly make it multi-region player. It even plays Hd-dvds, you can find brand new discs for $2-5 online.

Samsung BDP 2500/2550 from 2008 has superb DVD upscaling and Blu-ray playback. Its similar to Oppo in picture quality but does Netflix streaming(2550 does pandora)

Other than these above, they are all similar in price/performance/features. Any well-known brand(sony, lg, samsung, panasonic etc..) will have good picture for Blu-rays. Mediocre to acceptable picture quality on DVDs and streaming(which should be sufficient on TVs smaller than 50")

Just an advice, steer clear of samsung blu-ray players.

If you don't want the PS3 for its gaming, and just want a blu ray player, Go with the SONY BDP-S570! Its blazing fast, built in WiFi with up to wireless N speeds!

It depends on what you are using for. The real best would be the high end Denon blu ray players (which cost about $4500 for their top of the line model). Of course the best value for the best would actually be the Oppo BDP-83 (At $500), featuring fast loading, superior bulid over most plastic players, better perfromance on larger screens, ABT 2010 chip , and subtitle placement . The best value is of course the PS3, which should satisfy even the most demanding, movie buffs, videophiles and audiophiles along with the best multimedia features that rival modern computers (not as versatile though), but it isn't the most quiet, and lacks some features that some may find a deal breaker (no multichannel analog outputs, no subtitle placement, no RF port). Of course some may just be satisfied with a standaone player, and they have features that higher end players (like the Oppo) lack, such as instant streaming features such as netflix, Pandora, and youtube, and well as Multichannel analog outputs in cheaper players, and lets not begin with the 3D argument.

Best choice, choose a player that best fits your needs .
