Default Question for those who bought a Motorola Droid...

So far I'm completely in love with this phone!! However I have one question. When adding a contact, do you have to add that contact each time separately for each number? Like if I have a friend that I want to add his home, cell, and work #'s to my contact list, do I have to add him like 3 separate times, each time putting in the different #'s or is there a way to add a single contact with all 3 numbers?

I also have one and when you go into contacts you press the green plus sign by the phone number spot and it will bring up a new slot, press it as many times as you need

Glad you guys are liking your phones! I'm so excited to hear! I'm getting this soon, can't wait. I SO wanted the iphone (I'm on Verizon), but it just wasn't cost-effective for me and afraid the reception on AT&T would not be as good. And then everyone and their brother had the iphone which made me want to get something different.

Any others out there who have the Droid - please chime in on your thoughts, what you like, dislike. Thanks!

I don't have a Droid, but I've been using Android phones for over a year now, and I think they're finally getting to the level of being serious competition for the iPhone. The only downside to them is still the apps, since Android is still fairly niche (although that should start to change really quickly). There aren't a lot of "official" apps from big companies/developers, so you have a lot of amateur apps that lack polish and sometimes leave a lot to be desired in terms of functionality. But, the level of customization with Android vs. the iPhone is definitely liberating, and with the recent explosion of phones with Android, I'm sure a steady stream of quality apps isn't too far behind.

I made the Verizon->AT&T switch in June, due to wanting an iPhone. If you ask me, the advertisements regarding AT&T's (lack of) coverage are completely overblown. My reception has been as good, if not better than when I was on Verizon, including in areas where they are saying there is no/bad coverage. I'm glad I made the switch.

I bought one on Day 1. So far I'm liking it quite a bit. One thing I need to figure out is how to get the digital copies of these movies onto it.

You'd have to re-encode the movies to get rid of the DRM, which can be a bit of a hassle.

Question

Just received my Droid yseterday and I'm in love!

One question for you Droid users - is the top power button the only way to turn on the Droid when the screen has timed out? I'd like to just touch the screen to turn it on.

I know sliding the keyboard turns it on when the screen has timed out, but was hoping there was a way to set it so I can just touch the screen and then unlock from there.

Thanks.

Yep, a quick tap on the top button.

It seemed odd when I got the phone, but it is just 2nd nature now.

+1 According to the map that Verizon uses in their commercials, AT&T doesn't have any 3G within 300 miles of me, but I have constant 3G in the two counties that I travel through each day.

The problems with AT&T aren't apparent until you are in a heavily populated area like LA or NY. Then you are lucky if you can get 3G speeds on the your phones. The networks in those areas are just simply over crowded. Even companies like Sprint and T-Mobile that have a smaller number of subscribers don't get optimal speeds.

Pretty much just sign up for the company that has the phone you want the cheapest and with the cheapest plan you want.

Has flash support been added to the Droid yet I heard they were going to add it in early '10. I'm thinking of getting one of these , stuck with U.S. cellular right now
