USA New tire technology, no air needed, no more flats

Has anyone else seen this new tire technology that was developed by Michelin?

They look promising and I'm curious how much they will cost.

Have seen concept a while back in Popular Science. Air or pneumatic tires are used because they deliver a smoother ride. Really old cars had skinney solid rubber tires that never went flat, but the ride I heard was terrible, and was good only for slow speeds. Neverthless, it was a tough sell at time to get people to use air when there was such a risk of a flat, but I'm sure the desire to drive faster helped move things along. Looks like we are now going between the two extremes. I see it is being used on construction equipment.

I've seen them before, but I'm not going to spend extra money on that. Michelin = overpriced tires.

I can't watch the video at work. Anyone got a pic? I work in that field so I can see if I get info.

They have prototypes for bikes, cars (audi in the video),and contruction equipment which I like because I'm sure they are lighter than foam filled, won't go flat on the job site, and looks like it rides smoother than solid tires.
Just a little worried about grip and stability with a heavy load.

True, but Michelins are one of the better tires on the market.
You know you get what you pay for as with anything you buy.
I opt to go w/ Continentals for the mighty Lex, smooth ride, excellent performance, and wear evenly.
Price is reasonsable for my size.

I just hate some of the car manufactures like Acura that put crappy Michelin tires on their vehicles. They will last if you take care of them, but in 1st gear on my TL, the tires couldn't handle hard acceleration and turns when I would rev up the car. The tire size for Michelin on my Acura are 235/40/18, and it's just too expensive per tire for me to consider them unless I use the stock tires which I'm not going back to.

Now that I'm riding with my Continental (Extreme Contact DWS), I couldn't be any happier so far. On my 3rd balance and rotation (about 15K owned) and my ride is still quiet. Although it doesn't perform better than my old Goodyear Eagle 1's, these Continental tires are quite nice. Now that I'm older, I can sacrifice some performance for some comfort.

You are spot on my man!

One thing people do not realize is that tires that come with a new car is a softer riding compound than the replacements.
Even if you put the same exact tires on you will never get the same ride you did when you drove off the lot with your new car.
True story!

Those Goodyears are decent tires but they tend to chop.
Very hard to keep them wearing flat across the contact patch even with religious rotations.
No matter what, when you gain in performance you loose something somewhere else.
It's a sacrafice.

The real problem now is the growing trend of larger rims which gives us all smaller tires with worse rides and bigger chance of damage to not just the rims, but to the tires as-well.
