Default Writing to Universal to join Blu-ray

http://www.universalstudios.com/home...cgi?email_id=9

Write a letter to Universal from the link below.

you gotta play dumb and as if you don't know anything about the HD war.

Quote:
"Dear Universal,

I'm a long-time customer and I really love the movies that you've produced.

Just recently, I picked up a version of ...(The Bourne Identity, Meet the Fockers, Apollo 13, Doom (Unrated), etc a Universal HD-DVD release) at my nearest (Bestbuy, Futureshop, Circuit City, Walmart, Target, Etc).

I was looking forward to watching it that night, but the disc could not be read. When i returned the movie, the clerk told me my player ...(a PS3, etc)... could only read blu-ray. I thought it was strange so I went about looking for the same title in Blu-Ray format. I spent a good ...(30 minutes, or anything other time)... looking for it. Eventually, i had to ask a sales clerk who informed me that your studio does not support Blu-Ray and that you were in a "war" with Sony. Boy,was I confused and saddened by this.

I'd love to pick up the right player for your movies, but I can't return my PS3: my child loves playing games on the system and I enjoy the movies that I already have for it so far. I can only dream of the day that i'll be watching your movies again and doing business with you.

Sincerely,

John Doe"
Bombard a few of these and we should be getting some titles on Blu-ray

if you wish to copy and paste go ahead, but the message is clearer and more meaningful if written by your heart.

good luck sent mine off already.

I had sent them an e-mail last month, pretty much saying they had some great movies that I wish I could get in bluray format and hoped they would start releaseing in both. Never got a responce of course, but if the right people get enough requests, you never know.

Universal will be format neutral soon enough.

The rumors circulating recently from reliable sources say that Uni flipping will not happen in the near future. They have been getting worked over pretty hard for the last several months, but apparently whatever is holding them fast to HD-DVD was too much to overcome at this time.

Just means less money from me directly. They get it in a sense as I basically watch what I want from Universal in HD either via their UHD channel or through CinemaxHD or HBO HD. It's not the same as either format but it's far better than DVD and it means I don't have to support a format I don't believe in. If they never come around, so be it. There's plenty of product I do want to support.

You've got to be kidding me... I know ignorance is bliss but there's got to be limits somewhere. It's very strange, makes me wonder just how long that reported contract with Toshiba actually was. There were rumblings supposedly saying it was a year long contract and they'd announce something at CES next year. I'm wondering whether it's in Sony and the BDA's interest just to pay them off themselves and have done with it to get them on board.

I just saw paidgeek in the wild!

Sad news. I can't go without getting Heroes. I guess I'll need to watch it upscaled on DVD. Nothing else from Universal though, until it's in blu-ray.

Darn shame. But not surprising.

It's up to everyone to make Graffeo's lack of vision be clear and obvious:

- Buy another Blu-ray movie purchase or two.
- Invite a friend over to watch a Blu-ray movie.
- Don't buy Universal DVDs.

Oh well. No big loss. It just means my bank balance will fatten up a bit. As for Heroes, just rent them instead of buying them.

Give me Lost and Grey's Anatomy on BD!

Universal is brilliant, and I am not saying this because I am a fan of HD-DVD, which I in fact despise because it is a competitive format. They make alot more money by staying with HD-DVD because they know they will have to switch over some day, and they are milking HD-DVD fans out of every last penny before they stop production. They will switch over the day they stop making money because, that way, they get to sell the Blu-ray versions all over again, many to the same costomers who originally bought it on HD-DVD when they are forced to switch due to their dying format.

Since getting my PS3 in December, I've only boughten a couple of DVDs (I used to buy 3-4 a month). My concern is that it will be available in BR one day, so why waste money now? I realize it could be a long time before that happens (especially with Universal movies), but I can't help but think that way. For now, I'll just rent or borrow DVDs from friends for Universal movies.

You could be right that the studio is going to make lots of money off the double dip, but I think there are probably a lot of consumers like me out there to offset it (and the more PS3s that are sold, the greater the offset will be!)

Email is ignored.

If you want a response, or someone to read it, send them a letter SNAIL MAIL

1 mailed letter is worth 5000 emails these days

And it doesn't matter how much you beg until their exclusive contract expires

People keep saying that but there has been no proof that such a contract exists. It is easy to say it as it makes the most sense, but I doubt it is a fact. You are right though that snailmail is pretty much the only way to get these people to even glance our way.

I really hope that they will go with Blu-Ray in the future. The market is a lot more driven on the Blu-Ray side.

Being that NBC Universal is owned by GE, which is a public company, if they had an exclusive contract with Toshiba, they would be required to disclose that to shareholders (like me). So far I've seen no such proof that a contract exists, except Graffeo's blind loyalty. I think it's more likely that HE is getting paid a king's ransom to stick with HD-DVD. (Or Nishida has nekkid pictures of Graffeo with a Taiwanese she-male hooker... I can't decide.)

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this idea. Good thing I searched the forums before starting a new thread.
