I have 2 upgrades I'm looking to do, which one first? Dual subs or amp? I have an Energy ESW V10 that I want to match. I can get a Mirage Prestige S10 now to match it, but is that a must. Could I get something later like SVS PB10-NSD that would blend well with it or pay $500 now and get match with the Mirage? I have tried looking for another ESW V10 but no good only a couple of misses. Second is to get Emotiva XPA-3 and possibly miss getting the match of subs with the Mirage because it may be gone before I can save the money to get both. So again, Mirage Prestige S10 to match or XPA-3 and get second sub later that doesn't match?

well, don't ask us, what's more important to you and your needs; i can't tell you that. given your setup and what you currently hear and get out of it, performance & quality wise, what would be the best fit? i know that's not what you wanted to hear, sorry, but the truth is only you can truely answer that question. If you want better performance from your speakers, perhaps more than your receiver can give, then you need an amp. of course, if your speakers are doing kinda ok but your really lacking some LFE, then you should go with the sub. see, only you can answer either of those questions.
hope you get the resolve your looking for. keep us posted on which choice you end up going with. you know the truth is your going to buy both! |

I lied. I can't make up my mind, so after more reading I am buying the Mirage to get identical subs. May be one of my last chances to do so. Identical subs seem to be the best option from all of my reading. Amp will always be there. Will just have to use patience, that I don't have.

IMHO, matching subs would be the way to go. I agree that you should also get an amp when you have the available funds, but calibrating matching subs is much easier than mismatched subs (not impossible, but much more challenging). I vote get the subs squared away, and then add that awesome Emo-3 amp.
