Default What's up with Warner's weird cover art?

I have been seeing several of Warner's movie with this style of cover art, what's with it? Are these just the regular editions of the movies with a different slipcover over them?

Check it out:

It can't be that because I seen one of these style cases on Blood Diamond like 6-8 months back. The cases are still the same size. I am just wondering if you toss out the slipcover if it's the plain old regular cover art on these movies.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but how does this case differ from a non-Warner case?

It just looks like a regular movie case to me. I'm not sure what I'm looking for. And there's no slip cover on the movie you linked to.

No, the picture speaks for itself and he explained it just fine.

He's asking if the new "awards" editions being put out all feature a slip-cover of the exact image at that link. Each slip would be a shot of the BLU movie (in this case, HEAT) dispyed on a wooden tabletop with an "award" on it.

In other words, does HEAT have the original BD cover-art beneath the slip-cover that depicts the "awards" edition?

Ooooohhhhhhh.......Now I see what you're talking about. I originally thought the picture in the link was just a picture with the blu-ray sitting on the table. Now I see that the whole picture actually is the slip cover. Sorry for the confusion.

I can't provide any information regarding your question though. I wasn't even aware they were doing this with the slip covers. I will tell you that I wouldn't want to buy a blu-ray that came with that style of cover.

I'm guessing that that's just the slipcover art. The actual cover art in the case is probably of the picture of the BD case you see there in the slipcover art.

It's the Canadian version of the awards cover to promote the movies.

The Blu-ray case underneath the slipcover should have the standard cover art as pictured on the front of the slip. I assume that most of these awards version slipcovers are standard blu-ray case sized, with at least one odd exception.

I bought the Matrix with awards slipcover from Amazon.ca for $15 and it turns out that it is a slipcover over the Digibook. So the front cover of the slip shows a picture of the movie in a standard blu-ray case, which isn't even the version of the packaging included inside. Bizarre.

Does anyone know if the 300 slipcovered one is also for the Digibook Complete Experience version? Or is it actually the original standard case earlier release version that is pictured on the front of the slip?

Yes--It's the "Academy Award Edition", an annual tradition for studios to repackage and re-release any cheap multi-dipped back-catalogue title, under the justification that it got a nomination/award at some time, so it's a way of "celebrating" this year's Oscars. (Y'know, like TCM showing us those same danged movies every February?)

Geez, you woke us up for a seasonal catalogue promotion? Give us a real question next time!
