Check out this link

1080p is beautiful, i have a 1080i Plasma and a 1080p Lcd and the difference is big, i didn't think it would be but it is.

I think in a nutshell (correct me if i'm wrong) P (Progressive) refreshes the signal sent to your TV more times a second than I (Interlaced) giving a more clearer picture.

Interlaced provides half the lines of resolution (for 1080i that's 540) shown as every other line (think even numbers) and refreshes the opposite 540 lines (think odd numbers). These are refreshed very, very quickly, odd-even-odd-even to trick the eye into believing it is seeing a solid image made up of all the lines. NTSC is based on interlaced technology which is partially why it sucks (the other part being the resolution of 480i).

So yeah, any progressive technology is better, where all lines of resolution are refreshed and you are seeing a solid screen.
