Default Compromising with different methods for films

Does anyone use alternative ways in terms of synching video and/or audio when watching a film for the best overall experience? For instance: say that a specific film you bought on Blu-Ray has mediocre PQ and you have access to a superior version like a HD broadcast but the very same Blu-Ray has awesome audio that you want to take advantage of with your 5.1/7/1 sound system rather then using the TV speakers (assuming you lack a optical cable), so you use the HD broadcast version for the picture and use the Blu-Ray version for the sound. I guess a actual example of people potentially doing this could be for the Back to The Future trilogy because the HD broadcast versions, despite being the same masters, don't have the digital filtering that the Blu-Ray versions do.

I bring this up because I bought Conan the Barbarian (1982) on DVD a while back but found a HD broadcast version that I recorded with the pay TV service that I'm subscribed with. So I plan to use the DTS audio track from the DVD version and use the Picture from the HD broadcast version. It takes some careful specific synching which has to be dot on perfect for the two sources to connect with each other, but having trialed it, it seems to work well. The best of both worlds.
