Cool Samsung BDP-1200

I was thinking of getting the BDP-1200 even though it does not support Dolby TrueHD, but does it support or pass through PCM 5.1 audio? Also, from reading the movie reviews it seems the preference is PCM over TrueHD. Any opinions? Thanks!

You wont find too much of a difference as far as sound quality is concerned...both are lossless formats.

Thanks for the info, but I understand that the Panasonic does not support HDMI 1.3 and the PS3 does not upconvert regular DVD (Samsung does both). So if, that is the question, the Samsung passes through PCM 5.1 then the quality of sound would be the same as Dolby TrueHD as previously suggested.

The PS3 does upconvert with an hdmi connection.

Heres a question? do you have a reciever or will you be running it to your HDTV? and is your HDTV hdmi v1.3?

Bluray disc's will come with either an Uncompressed PCM, Dolby TrueHD or a DTS-HD Ma track...and sometimes both an uncompressed and dolby truHD together...

what do you think will happen when you get a movie with only a Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD track? since the samsung could not decode it, youre stuck listening to standard dolby digital...no sense having an HDMI 1.3 player that cant even decode audio like non 1.3's can?!!

Thank you again for the information and the article. No doubt there is very little, if any, 1.3 material currently available. Just my attempt at a small amount of future-proofing. I just obtained the new Denon 4308ci receiver and am awaiting (next week) the new Mits. Diamond WD-65833 DLP. They both have the HDMI 1.3 format.

I have the Sammy 1200 and am very happy. It has the best upscaling ability of sddvd. I have it hooked up to my Yamaha 5.1 muti channel connections for uncompressed audio. The sound is great !
The best advice I can give is search and read the review of the Sammy 1200.
The price is down to $450. I may get another one for upstairs when the new models come out.
