Default pro logic vs pro logic 2?

I have an old Marantz sr580 from like 1998 and am going to finally upgrade to an up to date reciever because I can only get lossy Dolby Digital on it. Well I will still have to use a matrix tech for my wii and was wondering how much better pl II is.

I have read a few articles but would be better to here from personal experience.

Thanks

Pro Logic II is worlds better than Pro Logic. PLII uses a more advanced algorithm to turn 2-channel sources into very good sounding 5.1. The old PL basically took the positive leads from the 2 mains and made your center channel and the negative leads from the 2 mains and pushed the same sound to both rears. I agree, it sounded pretty crappy compared to Dolby Digital (and anything with discrete channels). PLII and PLIIx (if you want to go 7.1) are considerably better than PL.
