I am looking for a single list of what the significant differences are between the ES series and standard 400 disc changer from Sony other than the obvious back plane changes (analogs/serial) and the aluminum chassis.
I have a number of installations where I am looking to put in 400 disc changers, but the price delta is significant enough between the two that I really do need to know what the differences are. I will not use an Escient - and never will if I can avoid it. In fact, if Sony fixes their interface a bit more there is no reason that it should not perform almost as nicely as the Escient does by itself. It's adequate enough as it is. I did look through several pages of the official thread, but didn't see the specific differences concisely listed and would like to hit just the differences as people know them to be. Thanks! |

7000ES has a 5 year warranty
7000ES built quality is among the best 7000ES uses Marvell QDEO chips for noise reduction, line-doubling, scaling etc.. 7000ES has a better audio analog section(need verification) 7000ES has RS-232 and IP control |

Ignoring the RS-232 which, like the analog outputs is obvious...
I did install a 7000 and I haven't seen anything at all about the potential for IP control. Even worse, the RS-232 control did not do a good job with scrolling. That is, if you press down and want to go down 100 titles, it doesn't speed up the scrolling like the IR control does, so it goes one-by-one-by-one and actually falls behind on the button presses so that you end up missing what your target was by a good bit. But - the IP control is my real question. Has anyone heard anything about this, or does it just mimic the RS-232 control? I tried hitting the IP address of the 7000 installed and it did not have a web interface for any type of control at all. As well, there is no software that I'm aware of designed to interact with the 7000. The build quality and warranty I'm aware of, but it's not going to be something people walk on - just put discs into and play back. Mostly over component video due to the nature of the setup of the home system. I'm looking for the compelling cost jump of about 100% for the 7000 and I just can't seem to find it. |
