Default What movies should I add to my collection to flesh it out?

I've been told that my collection lacks older movies and variety. What movies should I add?

Don't add movies just for the sake of adding them. Add movies that you think you would like.

You should add the movies that you like, not what someone else says you should have. Why pay for something you might not ever watch? If they want to pay to add movies to your collection, then let them. Otherwise, tell them to go fly a kite.

Every collection needs about fifty different editions of Blade Runner.

Flesh is actually a great film. If you like improvised dialogue and constant male nudity, snap it up.

I agree, there are a lot of great classics but if you decide to add some, add ones you enjoy personally.

Just as everybody has mentioned, you should enjoy the films you add to your collection! I would say the Criterion Collection is a safe and good way to expand your library to more global and older film. Akira Kurosawa would be a good starting point in my opinion

Adding more zombie movies ought to... flesh things out a bit.

Thief (Criterion) - You have three variations of Drive, you should definitely check out Thief then. To Live and Die in L.A. as well.
The 1989 Batman
The Godfathers
Unforgiven
The Good/Bad/Ugly

You don't have a single Kubrick, Hitchcock and only one Scorsese - you should look to add more. More Criterions - start with the popular ones that are generally well liked.

Do you have a certain decade preference? Do you enjoy one genre more than others? I'll echo others and say don't buy something just because a lot of people have it or overly praise something. If you don't usually enjoy Westerns, for instance, but like a good, old-fashioned revenge-type action flick then rent a classic western like High Noon. If you like it and don't mind that it's in Black & White then adding it to your collection would make sense. Also, be your own critic. Don't be misled by opinions, either from professional reviewers or the internet armchair kind. I've fallen in love with movies most other people seem to hate and have disliked others that have been critically acclaimed. Decide for yourself

This but do take an interest in seeing older films. A collection is a personal thing and no one should tell you how to collect.

The rate your collection thread is more how the person rating the collection likes collecting. I've been told that they would prefer more Westerns but I do not like Westerns all that much so that part of my collection will always lack to them.

Get Robocop. Might I also suggest the ultimate edition of Kingdom of Heaven?
