Which Rental Service for BD?

At some point in the next 6 to 12 months I hope to get a blu-ray player. I don't expect the local DVD rental places like Hollywood video to start carrying these discs until sometime in 2008 so if I were to get a player sooner who would you reccomend for rentals? Netflix or blockbuster or perhaps someone else? We really don't buy many movies so rental is where it's at for us.

I've had good luck with netflix. They let you choose formats easily and wait times are no different than with DVD. I do a large chunk of my viewing via them and have been extremely pleased.

I was at my local Hollywood video tonight and they have one shelf of Bluray discs and HD DVDs intermingled.

Apparently they are renting them for $6 for 5 days. Seems kinda steep but there you go.

On the plus side, I didn't see a single one of them available, which means that they are renting and hopefully the selection will improve. They had a number of Fox and Disney titles which are expensive to buy, so this might not be a bad option for those titles.

Really though I will probably end up going with a Netflix plan of some kind since it doesn't cost any more to rent the BDs there - though their selection is not great either last time I checked...

I switched to netflix after getting frustrated withthe blockbuster interface.
You need Indiana Jones to find movies on the slow and complex interface at blockbuster.
Netflix actually lets you set your "preference" for BD discs early on and then suggests them. Netflix interface is easier to negotiate and movies were easire for me to find.

I have had great Service with Netflix. The only problem that I have had was with Disturbia took them about a week to get to me. But other than that I usually get the discs the next day

Like mickmmd said; if you set Blu-ray Disc in your Netflix preferences, then any title that is available on BD will put that version in your queue when you select it.

Blockbuster is ok, but I think netflix might be better. Not all local stores carry Blu-ray yet, and those that do only carry a limited copies (or copy) per title. Most Blu-ray movies on BB online are "short wait" or "long wait".

I know this is an old post, but Blockbusters website and queue interface has improved 10 folds and it now works great. Support blockbuster, now they they are BluRay Exclusive at their stores, support our commrads!!!

Out of interest, how many titles do companies like Netflix have in Blu-Ray format? In the UK, I'm currently registered with Lovefilm (on a 90 day free trial ) and they've currently only got 206 titles in Blu-ray format. Blockbuster UK are currently listing 151 Blu-ray titles.

Update : Of course, I could just look myself. Netflix shows approx 350 titles, so some catching up to do I think. To be fair, Lovefilm have been adding to their total almost every other day,whereas Blockbuster have been stuck at 151 titles for weeks now.

i'm in canada and currently use zip.ca..the service is ridiculously slow! i am signed up for the 4 BDs at a time, costs roughly $26 per month. at best i get 8 BDs per month, which is decent but if there's no possible way to receive 11 per month, what's the point? i used to use the "unlimited 3 at a time" but i was lucky to get between 6-9 per month.

any suggestions for a fellow canadian?

I like the covenience of a Blockbuster store down the street for in house pickups if I'm mood to visit.
