Default Which hdmi cable to purchase?

Hey guys,

With the PS3 dropping to 299, decided to order one up this weekend and I want to be ready to go when it arrives. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but does it really matter which HDMI cable I purchase? I've seen some real expensive ones, but also some on amazon that sell for less than 5 bucks (and seem to have good reviews too!).

Thanks for the help!

I've ordered a few HDMI cables from amazon.com with no problems. They work just as well as the more expensive ones I own.

HDMI is a digital signal so unless you need a long length, don't spend more than $20. I got mine at Superstore for $12 last year and it still is working perfectly. Just make sure the connector is gold and you should be fine.
DON"T BUY MONSTER!!!

No need to pay those ridiculous prices charged for Monster-type cables. Monoprice sells good quality, inexpensive cables that WORK, are backed with a lifetime warranty and are given real-world kudos by almost everyone on this site.

Ha beats me, this is all new to me so if some guys could provide more insight it'd be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. Is this one really only 2 cents?

DON"T BUY MONSTER!!!
Absolutely. I worked at Circuity City and Radio Shack for a while. Expensive cables are mostly mark up. Stores like Best Buy (We all know what happened to Circuit Sh*ty), Sells their TVs even with no markup to keep prices low. They get you with Warranties and Accessories.

I picked up my cables for 13.50 (including tax) compared to 35(no tax) dollars for the cheapest HDMI at Walmart from a local discount retailer Don Quijote (Yes that quirky Japanese chain has 4 stores in Oahu. It's kinda fun to wade though all their chaotic store layout at times, it's a change of pace to Wal-mart, oh yeah we have Target now too)

the 13.50 HDMI cable is gold plated and triple shielded compared to a basic non gold plated 35 dollar HDMI cable.
A triple shielded gold plated cable from Monster can cost 99 to 120 bucks. 90% profit.

Even at 13.50 is too much for a cable

Try to keep the length of the cable short as possible. e.g. 3 - 6'. Then you will be okay with any reasonable HDMI1.3 Cable, e.g. monoprice as per the link. However, if you need to run it for a longer length, e.g. 30', then you need to be more careful - I recommend a thicker cable. e.g. 22 or 24 AWG for a longer run.

Yes. Don't buy the hype that you need a Sony or Monster brand HDMI cable.

While anything costing more than $20 will perform no better than some of those costing much less, there is such a thing as a crappy cable. Get the ones from Monoprice. They're both inexpensive and have high build quality. And, unlike many providers, you can get them in many different lengths. The only complaint I have is they are rather stiff (even 24AWG).
