First off, stay away from the CD/DVD lens cleaners with the brushes on them -- the brushes tend to scratch the lens. Instead, use a product like the Maxell BR-LC Blu-ray Lens Cleaner, It has a couple small holes in the disc which create a wind tunnel. It is also safe for CD / DVD players. As for wet or dry, I've never used a cleaning solution for the lens itself.

well. if there was a bunch of dust on the lens, perhaps.
but if there is smoke residue, forget it.
