I don't think they were joking lol...but Britney is certainly pretty close to the ranks of Madonna and MJ. Her tours are massive in money, and she still gets hit singles and sells albums. Plus she has been popular for well over a decade, much longer than many people...and she certainly is much bigger than Lopez.

But this will be interesting for sure. Britney would probably bring in a lot of viewers as people really love her. She is a bigger draw than Lopez I would assume...which would explain the bigger paycheck as well.

Not sure why I'm defending Britney Spears, but your comment makes no sense. Since 2009, she has had 2 #1 songs and 2 more Top 10 hits....

2008 she had another #1

Not to mention her 2008 and 2011 albums have sold over 2.5 million copies just in the US.

I (and Fox) need this deal to happen. It should make for a much better season than season 1. Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger never seemed relevent enough to mentor their teams (Abdul being incoherent 95% of the time and Scherzinger only being successful as part of a group and can't seem to kickstart her solo career to save her life).

She is the eighth top-selling female artist in the United States.

Best-selling female artist of the first decade of the 21st century, as well as the fifth overall.

She was ranked the 8th Artist of the 2000s by Billboard.

That is worthy of Michael Jackson mentions whether you like her or not. So just accept it and move on.

I think the ratings will be huge, just because people will be curious to see if she can handle live tv. Since her breakdown, her appearances have been very scripted and brief, and people wonder if the "old Britney" is still in there somewhere. I'm actually hoping she'll do well. I miss the pre-Kevin Federline Britney.

First off, you can't really compare Brittney with Michael. Sure Brittney may have sold 100 million albums (that's plural) BUT! Michael's Thriller has an estimated 110 million alone. That's one single album of Michael's compared to Brittney's entire career. And to be honest - I do not care for either of them.

Anyway, I think Brittney is a fairly logical choice. She is still relavent to the music industry and hopefully still looks as good as she used to. Her showing off a little skin would definately help bring in some male viewers. Doubt thats the way Simon wants the show to go but it definately helps The Voice with Christina Aguilera showing off her clevage in every episode. Not enough to keep me watching when I don't care for any of the contestants but doesn't hurt either.
