Video playback speed seems off...

I have no idea what causes this problem. I've seen it on the TVs at Best Buy and it has always bugged me. It looks as if the video is playing at about 1.2x normal speed.

Does anyone know what causes this, or how to disable it? I am using my PS3 at my cousin's house (house sitting), and am currently having this problem. It is happening both on Blu-Rays and downloaded videos.

P.S. I'm sure this has been asked before and I am sorry for re-posting if it has. It's just a hard to explain thing so I wasn't sure exactly what to search for.

Let me guess, the "problem" occurs on only LCD TVs.

LCD frame interpolation. The "TVs at Best Buy" reference makes for a nearly certain inference.

Ok I think I have it figured out. Looks like it was a setting called "Auto Motion Plus 120Hz." I turned it off, now things look normal.

What the hell is the point of it? It says it is supposed to "enhance fast action scenes" or some such nonsense, but it only seems to speed things up in an annoying fashion. It was in the standard setting, which annoys me because it just leads to one more thing to adjust when getting your TV set up.

They also have edge enhancement and all that turned on, but since it's not my TV I'm not going to change any other settings.

It's pretty much a sports setting, HD broadcasts of sports will cut in and out at times because the signal is too fast for your TV, "Auto Motion Plus" should correct that. Sucks during movies, though.

Well I'm just glad I know what this problem is now. Maybe this post will later serve to help anyone else with similar issues.
