Who enjoys movies made before your time? My nephew is just turning 18 and he is very '80's retro. Must be taking after his favorite uncle....
![]() It's amazing how he loves the "classic" movies we grew up with, and even went to a Peter Frampton concert. Most, if not all, of his music are the 80' superhits. Oddly, my favorite "before my time" movies seem to be all sci-fi. * Metropolis * The Day the Earth Stood Still * The War of the Worlds * Forbidden Planet Probably missing one or two. But then their are those films I was not able to see as a child and saw on TV years later, or other home video. * Original Star Wars - NEVER got to see it in the theater. I guess that is why I was never impressed with it afterwards. Never bought it on any kind of video. * Logan's Run. Too young to see it in theaters. Recorded from TV in the mid 80' in SLP mode. ![]() How about you? Last edited by tron3; 08-24-2007 at 05:43 PM. |

I have all but Metropolis. Forbidden Planet is a title I have been waiting Warner to catch up on.

StockStar, you simply MUST see the 1927 Classic Metropolis. Heck, it was made before my parents time! The vision of the future is unprecidented. It even shows the use of video screens for communication before tv was even invented!
Bridgette Helm who played Maria / False Maria (Robot) lived in Kentucky until 1999 before she died. Ironic how a woman once so associated with the future died just short of the new millenium. Greenmotion, you truly are spoiled. Dare I say, "brat" without offending you? There are lots of movies with well written scripts and character development that these modern "flash in the pan" special effects movies will never have. You are cheating yourself. And not developing mentally by having only visual and audio stimulation entertain you. Try one classic in your favorite genre. I bet you like it. Most modern day movies will fall just short of being forgotten. Only the dusty unwatched videos sitting on shelves will serve as reminders. The classics you so shun will live forever. |

I'm in that group! And I'm also a HUGE fan of classic TV like the Adventures of Superman, and I Love Lucy....Oh, and I can't forget Taxi!(even before Christopher Loyd & Andy Kaufman joined the cast)
there are so many I can't list them all EDIT: I'm only 24 |

![]() I read rumors of there being a remake of it. Sounds great, but if they screw up Robby the Robot like the did the original Lost in Space Robot, I'll shun it. |

Love 'em myself.
Some of my favorite movies are Chaplin & Keaton's. Hitchcock is amazing. And so forth, and so on. |

The wise man learns from the past. ALL of it. That's why "The Searchers" is on Blu, and we're still hoping for "Casablanca". |

Although I'm one of the oldest members here, based on the poll we did a while back, about a third of the movies I own are "before my time". I have stuff reaching as far back as 1916.
Spent the last couple of nights watching Warner's newly-released Popeye Collection 1933-1939. Completely remastered, it's a true gem for animation buffs. |

Many older films are incredible because they weren't relying on CG effects to sell a movie. By the way, so many B&W films are fantastic and all you need to do is change your temperature. Old carbon-arc lamp projectors had more of a red tint than blue or green so watching them in the original kelvin rating is a real treat - almost a sepia tone. You don't know what you're missing if you wont watch B&W or even subtitled films for that matter.

Well EXCUUUUUSE THEEEM for TRAILBLAZING the movie market!
So they didn't have 5.1 surround sound with THX certified systems or advanced computer graphics... But if it wasn't for these classic films, there would BE none of that. In fact, the way they made films was so different, it is an art-form of its own that has been lost to time and will always be remembered as the movies that started it all. Color was complicated enough for them, but there is a reason people still take Black and White photography. I know you probably don't care.. but by looking back at these monuments of accomplishment, you can learn more about the media of film and how it all got to where it is today! |

One of the main reasons I support Blu-ray is for the chance of seeing these classic films the way they should be seen, as many persons haven't ever seen them outside of NTSC video. The closest many of my friends have seen the 8 channel Ultra-Panavision 70mm Ben-Hur to the original is on 290i video. Or when they saw the pod race in Phantom Menace in theaters!
