actually, the latest oppo firmware is a little flaky.
if you use the DLNA stuff, it's best to power cycle the player if you go back and watch a movie. did it and all is well. (note: i tried the subtitle shift, but it made no difference. the alpha code for the dlna stuff needs work!) thanks! |

It's not overscan folks.
Just a glitch in the oppo firmware that needed a reboot to correct. When you live on the edge with these things, you take the bad with the good! -- |

same bug confirmed here with Blu-ray disc. Looked for subtitle offset but didn't find it.
After having lived through support he11 from horrific firmware on Samsung Blu-ray players, I really hope Oppo acknowledges this and corrects it soon. ron |

I wouldnt' call this a glitch or oversight by Oppo since it explicitly states that a reboot/reset is required for this particular firmware. I had the exact problem and they email saying that's what required per the update instructions.

I'm not complaining. Their dlna is an alpha at best and I have no problems living with it's problems. I simply forgot I was using it when I popped in the blu-ray. Should have tried a reboot before posting here ![]() |

Changing the subtitle shift setting to 0 fixed it for me. If they actually get DLNA to work for mkv files in NTFS file system (ie files over 4GB) I'd need to drill some holes to run wired network downstairs to the Oppo. Currently it's on powerline network just for firmware updates.

OK had this problem, but "reset defaults" corrected it for me.
Unfortunately this operation is disabled if you have a disk in the unit (frustrating). Remove any disk from the BDP83, then power down / up the unit. Follow the menus to "Setup" then to "reset defaults". You will have to go back through the setup wizard again (no biggie), but after this D9 subtitles will work fine. ron |

Upgraded my -83 to 1224 a few weeks ago, played "District 9" for the first time last night and had the same issue. Walked through Setup and changed subtitle shift to 0 (had been -5) and that fixed it right up.
