Default Sony 3D TVs to arrive in June

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-10...CmoreStories.0

I won't even touch this technology until we can watch 3D without the stupid glasses.

kinda sad as this "3d standard agreed upon" was supposed to stop a format war, but if you have to have 9 pairs for each persons house instead of a generic set of glasses that can be added like a blu tooth device then i believe it will fail . that is unless glasses come down to the 20-30 dollar level. its sad because i was in vegas this weekend and saw the new sony bravias led 3d tvs and they were impressive

3D TVs are a joke. The technology is 20 years old and costs hardly anything to add to an LCD TV.

The amount of money these companies are padding their sets to call them "3D" TVs is ludicrous.

I hope all of these TVs sit on shelves and rot.

A true 3D television does not require glasses. It requires some interesting (and existing) technologies that would justify a price premium.

These goofy TVs are nothing but cash grabs.

Default Dilemma

The real problem here especially for someone who wants the best picture quality that a company provides, is that the best PQ sets are going to be the one's with 3D.

Example.....Sony HX900 is their only set with LED backlighting and local dimming. Their best PQ. It comes 3D ready. All other sets are either LED edge-lit or CCFL.

The only other company that I can see that is breaking this mold is Vizio. Their PRO series sets will have 3D.....example the 55" set, but there will also be an XVT553 which will also have local dimming and the same 120 LED control blocks without the 3D and for a few hundred less.

I am going to buy a 52 - 55 inch set by the end of this year and want to get the best PQ that I can but don't want to spend $3K or more.

When is this tech available? When I was at CES, Intel had a 3d display without the glasses and it looked great. The main problem was extremely high usage of electricity to create the image and also that he told me this was an engineers dream and was easily 10 years away from being implemented in the consumer market. So Wingman, see you in 10 years.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and the customer service rep said that after you buy the tv, glasses and the blu ray player it will cost close to over 3 grand. And thats not just with Sonys line of 3-D tv's but other manufacturers as well. NO THANKS!!! I am very happy with what I have and it will be that way for quite awhile. I aint a fan of 3-D anyway and can find better ways to spend my money.

That's fine with me. I won't be missing much and I won't look like a fool wearing those stupid glasses.

I'm actually a bit torn between buying this set and a Samsung UN55B8500, which also has the OLED and a from what I hear some of the best PQ so far. They'll probably be around the same price too.

It's funny.. in April I'm gonna get my own first HDTV and 3D is just hitting the market. I just don't know if it'll be worth it, for me there's a lot of interest and concern at the same time. 3D gaming sounds like it could be fun, lol?

What's holding me back is the fact that the PS3 won't give you a full 1080p 3D display and I'd have to wait 2 extra months. And I probably would only like to see a small portion of movies in 3D. Plus I got so many questions like how many movies will be made into 3D? and won't most movies that weren't filmed in 3D not look as great as ones that were?

I just seriously don't know, man!

Completely. I don't think you can buy an OLED over 15" yet.

Infinite, scientifically they could not measure more than 1 million to 1 so it exceeded that. Contrast ratio is pretty much worthless information IMO

Tell you what. You make an 3D HDTV without having to wear those retarded glasses and I will THINK about upgrading to one. Until that happens, which I dont think it will, then I will stick with what I have. Enough said regaurding 3D tv for me.
