Default The Bad Movie Bible Discussion Thread

So I've been reading a book called The Bad Movie Bible which covers some of the best bad movies to watch. I realized I own quite a few of these, but more importantly, I realized I want to own more of these and hope more titles become available on blu-ray.

Why is Gymkata not on blu-ray?
Why is there no US release of Hercules in New York? Hooray for Lionsgate of all companies, this has now been answered!
Does anyone else think it's crazy there's so many domestic releases of Troll 2?
How can I live knowing that Elves is not available in HD (or even DVD)?!

If you find yourself asking similar questions, then this thread is for you.

For those that keep track, here's the link to the list challenge.

We can thank these fine companies for supporting our bad movie habits:
Shout/Scream Factory - 12 titles
Warner/Warner Archive - 6 titles (let's be honest, they just have a lot of bad movies)
Vinegar Syndrome - 4 titles (surprised they don't have more but I have faith they'll do the right thing)
MGM - 3 titles
Kino - 2 titles
20th Century Fox - 2 titles
Image - 2 titles
Any company with less, it's time to step up your game!

Some of those titles struck me as hilarious: Fist of the Vampire, Hercules in New York, Hell Comes to Frogtown. LOL

Fateful Findings has a BD-R release.

And some of these I'd be surprised if they ever hit Blu-ray. For example, the footage I saw from The Cinema Snob's review of A Talking Cat!?! looks bad even in SD (and I'm convinced it was in fact filmed in SD).

I've only seen 18 out of 102 movies on the list in the link.

Hercules In New York may not have a US release but I have the Italian blu-ray, it's region free and pretty great. It has the original on screen titles (i.e. no "Hercules Goes Bananas") and has Arnold's actual voice instead of the dubbed one (though I can't decide which is funnier as they're both pretty hilarious).

I have all of the ones readily available in USA and some of the imports. Will consider the other imports.

If you haven't seen DEATH BED: THE BED THAT EATS that should be on the top of your list.

A couple others I will recommend:

SEXSQUATCH - 1st one is classic, nonstop low budget laughs. Available on limited BD-R and pressed DVD:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Sexsq...lu-ray/168448/

CHRISTINA - Unintentionally hilarious throughout the whole movie, highly recommended, on Blu-ray:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Chris...lu-ray/154701/

NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE - Great bizarre action movie with catchy soundtrack! On Blu.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Never...lu-ray/171637/

PHOBE: The Xenophobic Experiments - Canadian cheese. DVD only, no BD coming:
https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/Phobe-Th...ts-DVD/127865/

DEVIL'S EXPRESS - Too bizarre to describe, good stuff, now on Blu:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Devil...lu-ray/189910/

BTW there is an Arrow release of Gore Gore Girls in the HGL set.

Yeah, there are plenty on this list that will likely never see the light of day and then there are others that make you wonder why they're not out yet. Apparently, Germany and Japan love bad movies just as much as us so there's hope for many more to come out even if they never get a domestic release.

I'm kind of surprised Fox never put out a blu-ray of Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD as a way of giving the finger to the more successful MCU, also to ride on some of their success. Now that Disney is buying out Fox, it's even less likely since they'll just want to sweep it under the rug. Shame too, I actually like the Hoff in that role, definitely fills the cheese-o-meter to max capacity. We'll also never likely see the best Fantastic Four movie to date beyond the crummy VHS quality that we have available, at least there's a good documentary on it.

The Nick Fury movie was made-for-TV and was more than likely edited on video, therefore making a Blu-ray more of a hassle (heh, heh) than it's probably worth.

Gotcha covered, Ape - #90 Great 3D flick, well, great 3D .

There is a dearth of teenager sex flicks, but for the most part, they're in on the joke which is why most wouldn't qualify. It also excludes films that aim to be good-bad or are tongue-in-cheek on purpose, such as Samurai Cop 2 and Flash Gordon. Plenty of martial arts films in the list even if they're not outright Kung Fu type films. I do agree that No Holds Barred is a glaring omission but I'm sure there's at least another 100 or so films we'd all consider missing from any good-bad list.

The book also only includes films from the 70's and later since films from earlier than that may seem funny and cheesy now but actually played quite serious at the time (even something as beloved as Forbidden Planet can garner chuckles now).

Decided to go through the list and see which ones I own:
[Show spoiler]
2 Miami Connection
4 Ninja III: The Domination - haven't watched it yet
20 Deadly Prey - haven't watched it yet
21 Death Machines - haven't watched it yet
22 Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection
25 Raw Force [Kung Fu Cannibals]
27 Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
30 The Alien Factor - haven't watched it yet
31 Starcrash
32 Battle Beyond the Stars
33 Message from Space - haven't watched it yet
40 Sorceress
41 Deathstalker II
50 Batman & Robin
52 Troll 2 - haven't watched it yet
57 Jason X
70 Chopping Mall
90 Ape [A*P*E]
94 Anaconda
99 The Ice Pirates

My seen but don't own list adds to it a small bit:
[Show spoiler]
5 Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. - wish it was on blu
9 Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
15 Samurai Cop - need to buy
36 Battlefield Earth
45 The Fantastic Four - wish it was on blu
46 Highlander II: The Quickening
83 The Happening
85 Showgirls - I've seen most of it... well... I've seen the parts that matter

Somehow, I still have yet to watch The Room despite its epic status. I've seen parts and I think the only way I could make it through would be to watch it as part of a midnight showing with a crowd but nothing like that has happened in my area yet, one of these days though!

Give Fateful Findings a shot. Breen's earnestness and belief of the conspiracy theories his "character" spouts off makes it one of the most unintentionally funny movies possibly ever.

In fact, it's more entertaining than most of today's vanity projects that The Playlist or some other shill site will praise.

Here's one of my favorite moments from His Breenness:

Yup, bad films can still be good. I saw a few a own:

Mortal Combat: Annihilation - So bad it's good
Death Wish 3
Godzilla v. Mech - Humans in monster suits, what's not to like
Fantastic Four - Sounds awesome
Kill Dozer - This made me afraid of construction trucks lol
Jason X - Whyyyyyyyy, lol
Croc: 2 - I like this because I went to film school with a chick that's in the
film. She died after plane crash lol
The Swarm - Killer bees come'on lol
The Happening - I was on the set a couple days while filming
Empire of the Ants - Bad effects, still liked it.
Anaconda - Huh, I'm shocked lol

I like a lot of bad B movies they have something these big hype films just don't have. A small fan base lol

I completely disagree with their reasoning so I will not comment further. I would also replace some of their films with far worst films released after 1970 that they surprisingly ignored.

"Dead Heat"? The one with Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo? That's not a remotely bad film. I've seen like 10 films the past month that make "Dead Heat" look like "The Third Man". Also, "Petey Wheatstraw" has no business being on this list.

I've seen 53 of these, and own 21.*

Like any best/worst lists, I could quibble with some of the choices and omissions. But in the end, these things are always an interesting peek into someone's tastes.

*Numbers based on an incredibly hasty count. Feel free to put an "-ish" by them.
