With regard to Blu-ray new releases, just how big is Warner Bros market share? I am asking because with the 28-day delay of WB New Release from Netflix, I want to know how many new release of Blu-ray I would miss.

I think it's safe to say that Warner Bros. (in this case the distribution arm Warner Home Video) is huge. Most definitely the biggest studio, mainly thanks to its parent company Time Warner though.
Aside from their own films they have access to: - New Line Cinema - virtually every pre-1986 MGM film (including Orion Pictures) - distribution for every Time-Warner subsidary (or part of the company) including: HBO, the CW, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, DC Comics, Turner, Hanna-Barbera, Ruby-Spears, Lorimar, Rankin/Bass, the Popeye shorts, Peanuts specials, Watership Down, the first three Pokémon films, and much more. These above listed things are all owned in some way by Time-Warner, but WB also has distribution deals with non-affiliated companies like Viz Media, National Geographic and the BBC. |

Orion Pictures was originally a venture between WB and some former executives of UA. Later on, they split from Warner Communications and became an independent studio. Warner Bros. Studios own all of the Orion movies before 1982. Although they didn't remain an independent studio for long til the late 1980s when Metromedia bought a lot of shares in the company. Later on in the 1990s, it went bankrupt and MGM took the opportunity to buy all of the library to make up for selling most of its library to WB.
The rest is history. |

MGM didn't sell the Bond library to WB. That wasn't included in the deal they made years ago. MGM made a deal with Fox to distribute the MGM/UA library on home video a few years ago after they weren't too happy with the way Sony was handling everything.

As everyone has already mentioned, yes Warner is a big studio (backed by Time Warner). One of the largest in the world. And not just the largest movie studio, but the largest TV production company in the world as well. They sell shows to all of the Big Four networks. The company is big and very important to Hollywood... Last edited by Kizzo; 03-26-2010 at 06:55 PM. |

Are those stats based on actual market data, or just based on what people here have in their collections?

Yes I have heard that Warner is the highest in bidding on the MGM film calalogue, and I think that's kind of sad as they have proven time and time again that many of their blu releases are sub par. We all know they can do better, but for some reason refuse to.
