United Kingdom Joyland (2022)

Coming from Studio Soho on 26th June.

One of the few Pakistani films to be released on Blu-ray beyond Jamil Dehlavi’s films (no sign of The Legend of Maula Jatt!)

Epic film that doesn't feel like a debut. It tackles so many relevant themes and means a lot to the queer South Asian community. The Pakistanis can be proud! It's great to see such distribution, after the ban was lifted.

But why are all the posters so piss-poor? It's like all of the designers just slapped a bold Helvetica weight on some stills and called it a day. The artwork designed for the French release is stunning. The color combo and font choice are so elegant.

Besides, I have to import the Blu-ray from the UK, as we're only getting a DVD in The Netherlands. Still better than nothing. I don't recall if the Biba song sequence was subtitled or not.

Especially when it’s a gorgeously shot film with some incredible visuals - the bloodletting, the oversized cutout, projected lights, the ending shot and many others.

Exactly, every frame looked gorgeous. Maybe there's hope for another boutique release elsewhere...

Oscilloscope have US rights, which should mean a nice looking digipack.

Yeah £15 Blu-ray with slipcover might end up being the better option, plus Oscilloscope have been slow to release all their recent acquisitions.

I see this release is Region B and untested for others. Living in the US, has anyone tried this release of Joyland on a Region A blu-ray player?

I think this is the first Pakistani film to get a blu rayrelease due to it having multiple distributors. I bought BOL and Khud Kay Liye on DVD from Pakistan back in the day. The rest have been just digital/streaming releases
