Castle Freak (1995) (Limited Edition) (Blu-ray)

Release 26th May 2025 Pre-order now!

Title number 043 on our Black Label

101 Films presents gothic horror Castle Freak (1995) on Blu-ray. Directed by the late Stuart Gordon, this chilling tale is one of his many films inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Best known for his distinctive contributions to cult horror and sci-fi throughout the '80s and '90s — with genre classics such as Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Dolls — Gordon returned to familiar territory with Castle Freak, a lesser-known gem that reunited him with frequent collaborator and producer Charles Band.

John Reilly, (Jeffrey Combs - Re-Animator), his wife Susan (Barbara Crampton - Re Animator, The Young and the Restless) and their daughter come face to face with terror when they travel to Italy to move into a castle they have inherited. Unbeknownst to them, their new home harbours a grotesquely disfigured and tortured man who has been imprisoned for decades. When mutilated bodies start turning up, John must uncover the Reilly family’s dark secret to save his wife and child from the sadistic being.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Brand new extras:

• "Get Your Freak On!" - Interview with composer Richard Band
• "Don't Look in the Basement!" - Interview with actress Barbara Crampton.
• "Freak on a Leash!" - Interview with filmmaker Chris Alexander.

Archive extras:

• Castle speak with Stuart Gordon
• William Shatner interview with Stuart Gordon, Barbara Crampton, and Jeffrey Combs
• Videozone
• Trailer

its a shame The Evil Clergyman" short film and The Premiere of "The Evil Clergyman" 2013 featurette is missing from this release i know there's three new interview on the disc but its not a new scan or 4k so i'm keeping the 88fims release cause i really like the short film.

Yeah, without that I'm not double-dipping. They could at least have thrown the remake in.

This will just be a port of the existing bluray. 101 never do new restorations. If the US had just released a new restoration that would make it worth upgrading from the 88 films bluray. But as they have not this means they would probably have picked up the same master used in the old full moon bluray

Great to see 101 keeping Full Moon stuff in print, but they're hampered by Full Moon's masters. They should do a boxset of Trancers 2-5 though to go with the 4K.

I'm satisfied with my 88 of this one, but I wouldn't complain if 101 could source an uncut Puppet Master from somewhere.

I'd like to see a new & improved UK edition of Tourist Trap, too. The previous 88 Films edition went OOP ages ago and I missed out on getting it at the time .

They've just announced it. But wouldn't be surprised if it's the cut version (same as the 88 films bluray and the first Full Moon bluray). Best getting the recent Full Moon remastered bluray from 2021, which is 100% uncut for the first time on bluray. And it's region B compatible.

Isn’t the 88 films version OOP? And with Full Moon only using Dolby digital, this may be the only version (to be confirmed) on the market with lossless audio.
