Default Projector Image Retention/Burn

Hi all,

I’ve upgraded my panny projector to a jvc dla-hd950 (pics to follow in a few days).

In the manual there is a warning about leaving still images/logos etc on the screen for a long time because it may cause them to stay there, I’ve never heard of this with a projector and I don't recall seeing any such warning in the pannys manual.

Is this an issue? as I play on my ps3 quite a bit especially at weekends usually up to 4-5 hours a time and don’t want to mess up my new 6K projector.

Any info would be appreciated.

The manual for my projector says the same thing. I think they just print that to save their butts. To the best of my knowledge the only projectors that are supposedly susceptible to image retention are LCD with an organic panel. I am not familiar with your projector but I believe jvc only uses lcos--not susceptible to image retention.

Like I said my manual says the same as yours and my projector is an LCD with an inorganic panel--not susceptible to image retention.

Image retention (or in worse cases burn in) in fixed pixel displays (Including front projection) only happen in extreme cases, just as LCD panels are. The only front projection display more suspectable to burn in are CRT projectors, which if you can handle with burn in, you can handle the image of a CRT. I have never recalled image retention in an LCoS display, but it's not good for the bulb to leave it on all the time, so the real cost of it is actually bulb usage and reduced bulb life.
