Default doctor who

WOW, the eleventh Doctor just made his debut, can't wait for the full series around Easter time.

I watched on BBC HD and there was no preview of the new series, I just caught it online, but if anyone saw it on BBC1, did they show the preview? If yes, then that makes me think the series will be SD unlike the specials which were HD. Shame if true, oh well.

At least I can relax now, for the last hour or so my hearts been racing!!!

I thought the last episode was ok, but the last 10 mins made a mockery of David Tennenet death

Series 5 and all new Doctor Who will be filmed in HD. Doctor Who is done with SD unless they still do the cartoon specials in SD still. I loved what I saw of Matt Smith as the Doctor and can't wait for series 5.

Matt Smith playes the Doctor now. He looks to be a good Doctor judging from the series 5 trailer. I think I will like him but the 10th will always be the best to me.

David will be a hard act to follow, but it looks like they've made a few changes to refresh everything and give it a new identity; new logo, probable new titles sequence, new look TARDIS (inside and out) and a new head writer who just happens to have written some of the best stories so far; it's all looking good! Oh, and the new companion looks rather lovely to

I'm not going to lie to any of you... I was teary eyed at the end of last nights episode! So what? sue me!!!

It was a fantastically poingant end to David Tennants time as the 10th Doctor!

And I'm looking forward to April when the new season starts. Steven Moffat as head writer is a mouth watering prospect to say the least!

Matt Smith is 27. But when you watch the trailer for series 5 or series 1 since they are starting over they said he does a pretty good job.

I'm watching David Tennant's last episode tonight, and I'm already in mourning.

I've taken a look at the new Doctor, and hope he can pull it off. It will take a while to get used to him because this has been my favorite Doctor so far.

Never ever got into Dr Who , but the Space Channel is running a marathon of the specials right now and I've caught a few of them.

They've been pretty good so far. End of Time part 2 is airing right now. I guess that's the last one for Tennant.

I thought the Doctor visiting all his past companions was rather long-winded, but does it mean we'll never see these characters again in the future? Funny that Tennant's tenure had such an explosive ending!

I'm looking forward to the next series.

We might see some of the old characters ago nothing has been reveled yet. I liked that they showed what Jack was up to after the events of Children of Earth at least we get more Jack for Torchwood series 4.

I think Doctor who is niche outside the UK for the most part. Since nothing has been released on blu yet I would venture many people don't look here. I know on some other sites, the Who threads are wildly active, but it will never be like Lost or other shows in the US as it's not available in the US on anything other then BBC-America, Sci-Fi (usually really long delay for them to get it) and PBS. There might be some other channels, but I have not seen them.

I've been watching and following the series since the early 80's.

I agree, and it's really sad. I think the storyline and production value(new show) matches anything on US television. I've had friends and family over and they just can't get past the "funny" accents.

Also, I watched the last episode last night and based on about 2 minutes at the end and the preview I think the new Doctor is going to do fine. I'll still miss David Tennant though.

I think Doctor Who is getting more popular in the US as it goes on but no way as popular as it is in the UK. Also we do have one Doctor Who blu-ray with 2 more for Feb 2nd.

Yeah that might help get more interest on this forum.

I'm not sure if it's cool or not, but there is a decent Who fan forum over at Satelliteguys.us. Really not a competitor to this site so I'm gonna link to the forum, but mods if it's not cool, please allow the info to remain, just unlink it if possible.

*** Spoiler Warning if you haven't already seen it***

Watching the very first broadcast of part 2 on bbc america, they didn't show the season 5 trailer... went straight to Demons.

I had really hoped for more this time around, but to me it was just like Parting of the Ways... the regen scenes really don't have that feeling/ drama of the Doctor actually dying. He's standing... few grunts and acks... can hold a decent conversation... I'm not fond of the whole energy volcano effect either. I'd much rather have a Logopolis or Androzani where the Doctor is seriously messed up, and either have the current companions around to react with some real concern or have the Doctor see or hear a companion/enemy retrospective as he is dying.

The only thing that appealed about the plot was what they were going to do with the Time Lords return. I have not been happy at all with how the Master was brought back being mostly a goofball, and the Master Race thing, to me, was yet another RTD plot that was just too silly for me to take seriously. I can't see Delgado or Ainley taking that angle at all. They wanted to rule and control others... you don't get the ego trip of people cowering in fear of being TCE'd or killed by whatever means... no tributes, etc... you are just ruling over versions of yourself that are happily along for the ride.

I'd figure he would get as bored as General Zod did in Superman 2 and about as quickly too.

I am really looking forward to Moffat's run... after season 2 I have thought most of the eps were average at best with maybe only a couple of ones that were really good (Moffat being the writer of most of those select few). I still prefer Eccelston over Tennant... not for a lack of talent on Tennant's part... but I think RTD went a bit overboard with the comedy elements and more of a kiddie show approach with Tennant later on. When Tennant got some serious material to work with (Girl in Fireplace, Impossible Planet, etc) I was amazed how intense he was... I wanted more of that and less of the comedy (of which I thought Eccelston's era had a better balance of).

So I am hoping that Moffat brings the show around to a more serious tone (more regular drama and not just kiddie fare)... and after seeing the season 5 trailer with some vampire looking creatures and the return of the Weeping Angels... dare I hope for more gothic horror ala Hinchcliffe era?

As for Matt Smith, I could care less how young he is or looks... Davison was for his time and he was one of my favs. There is only one Dctor I didn't like (#6) and I think that he was more a victim of the writing and direction at that time and there wasn't much he could do about it (and I hear his Big Finish work is very good). Since Matt is younger, who knows... might be nice to have someone take a good solid run at #4s record tenure.
