Default looking at a stand alone BD-Payer

I have come up with these 4 BD players.

I don't have a 3D TV so right now I am not thinking of going that route.

Easy choice to me, if you have the funds, then snag the Oppo BDP-83 and don't look back.

Would be the BD590 for me. Works great, lots of features and tons of storage space.....

I guess it really depends on what you are using it for. The PS3 is the ultimate blu ray player, it lacks subtitle placement but surpasses everything else. Worried about new techonlogy coming out, having to buy a new BD player, No worries with the PS3 a simply firmware update. It also has one of the Fastest Processors in the WORLD!!! You cant go wrong with the PS3, but you need to decide wether you want the fat or skinny, i know the skinny does lossless through bitstream and the Fat doesnt. Just do a little research, you getting a better bang for you buck with the Sony PS3, this is a fact not a opinion.

If you don't play a lot of standard DVDs the PS3 is about as good as anything for BR playback. There's just not a lot of variance there.

I'm keeping my PS3 60GB (which is now 500GB but that's besides the point.)

Right. If you need your AVR to tell you it's DTS MA then you need another player.

Mine AVR is in pure direct mode so the little display is turned off.

Edit - Also my AVR doesn't support decoding of all HD Audio formats so having the PS3 decode them and send them out as PCM is another reason for me to keep the PS3.
