United Kingdom BD from UK quality good as BD from USA?

Hi

I've considered to buy some of titles from UK such as Silverado, Kung Fu Panda, X-men Trilogy etc.... because price is much lower than BD from USA.
Just wonder if qulity of video and audio are the same between UK and USA?

Thanks!

You canīt give a general answer to this: Sometimes the US-Versions are better and sometimes they are the same as the UK-Versions. Sometimes the UK-Versions are better than the US-Versions...

For X-Men the UK-Versions are even better than the US since they have more extras (PIP). PQ and AQ are identical. But I am not sure if the UK-Version is region locked. The US-Version is region locked so the UK-Version might be as well so you might not be able to play it in the US.

Well said...better is relative anyway as it depends what your wants are. I can say though that so far I've not been disappointed with any of the titles I bought from Amazon UK.

You can buy with confidence!

This question cant be answered simply. It depends on the studio and the master used. You need to check reviews for each version which are often on this site. It has been proven that sometimes UK PQ is better on some films and sometimes not. The other good thing about the reviewers on this site is they often do comparisons and make reference to other region releases.

All 3 discs you have mentioned have the exact same transfers as the ones on the US Releases. They are all Region Free aswell if that is of any help to anyone.

Generally the video transfers are the same, The Audio usually has more selections as their is a broader audience from various countries in Europe. Sometimes there are differences, few and far between though

The easiest thing to do is to check which studio(s) released the discs. If it's the same studio in both the US and the UK they'll almost always be identical in terms of quality (the biggest exception being a handful of Universal discs with slightly lower bitrate on the UK releases.)

However if the studios differ between the UK and US releases you'll want to check out the specs and comparisons for those specific discs. For example Zodiac and The Prestige are from Paramount and Disney respectively in the US and have lossless audio, but the UK releases are both from Warner and only have DD5.1 audio.

The X-Men versions are all region free - I got the UK Box Set and checked it now (did not have it at hand earlier).

So those Blu-ays can easily be imported from the UK and have identical PQ and AQ to the US versions and even more extras. So no problem there.

As said with othet titles it varies...For example "Panīs Labyrinth" was released by another studio in the UK and the transfer is far superior to the US Version, since it has no DNR.

The "Total Recall" Blu-ray from the UK also is a lot better than the US disc. Same goes for "Starship Troopers" - the UK version has slightly better PQ and does not have the audio sync issues of the US disc.

"Zodiac" for example is an example of the US version being better since it has a much higher bitrate than the UK disc and I think also a lot more extras.

"The Fall" is also better in the US: Higher Bitrate (Dual Layer BD with 50 GB versus the UK version with a single layer Blu with 25 GB) and also more extras.

So best check every title as the others said. Even if it is the same studio it might be a different transfer (although it is unlikely). If it is another studio it is very probable that it is a different transfer / encode that might be better or worse.
