I'm not 100% sure this is the right forum for this, so please bear with me. I've begun watching Xena again, and everything has been going just fine. I watch episodes on a variety of players around the house, occasionally on my PS3 on an HDTV. Today, I was horrified to see that one of the episodes will not play on my PS3 whatsoever. It just hangs on the menu forever (Season 2, Disc 1, Episode 2 - "Remember Nothing"). Puzzled, I next tried it on my HD-DVD player, where it would load for about a minute, then start play at the beginning of chapter 2. Efforts to rewind or fastforward caused freezing.
Then, I tried it on my computer. Plays perfect. Same goes for two other laptops, my XBox 360, a normal DVD player and my absolutely horrible portable DVD player. I find it odd that the disc refuses to play that episode (and only that one) on my two hi def movie machines. So, my question: Are there some DVD's that won't play as well on BD players as they would on an old school DVD player? And even better, if you have Season 2 of Xena on DVD, could you please place it in your BD player (PS3 preferably) and tell me if that episode plays? Thanks for looking and thanks for ANY input! |

What I've noticed is that the problem does not exist on season 1, but starts with season 2. A middle episode on the disk freezes, not the first or last episode. All disks on season 2 seem to have the problem, and so far season 3 also seems to have the problem (we recently got the 6 season set, and are watching it now).
I called Sony customer service, and they haven't had the problem reported to them before. Of course, if it's fixable in software, the more people reporting the problem the better, as they'll prioritize problems by the severity and frequency of reporting... |

Okay, I realize that this post is a couple years old but I wanted to post some advice to others who may land here.
The problems that some people get with the Xena DVD sets, I believe, is some kind of formatting issue. They didn't format the discs very well when they made them. I've been having some of the same problems myself and have been testing one particularly problematic disc, Disc 6 of Season 2, on several DVD players in my house, including the one on the laptop I'm typing on now. So far, I tested the disc on a desktop, my laptop, a portable DVD drive that connects to a computer, 2 DVD players, my PS2, and my 120 GB PS3 Slim. Results: On the desktop, the disc froze up Windows Media Player and wouldn't play at all. On the portable DVD drive that connects to the desktop, it played just fine in the desktop's Windows Media Player, but only until Chapter 5 of the 2nd Season Finale. I should note that the portable DVD drive is only a few years old, while the desktop is, maybe, 8 or so years old. On my laptop, the disc played just fine up until Chapter 5 of the 2nd Season Finale, and my laptop is probably a year newer than the portable DVD drive. It only plays one episode on the disc in one DVD player but plays perfectly, without a hitch in the other. I should note that the DVD player that played the disc perfectly was, maybe, 2 to 3 years newer than the DVD player that only plays one episode. It doesn't load at all on my PS2, which is actually what I expected. However, also as I expected, it played perfectly, without a hitch, on my 120 GB PS3 Slim. Conclusion: Newer DVD players and devices should have no problem at all playing the discs, whereas older players and devices might not play the discs at all. It may not be what you are wanting to do, but if you get a new, higher end DVD player, you might not have a problem at all with the discs. They may not have formatted the discs very well, but hopefully anyone who finds themselves on this board might be able to actually use the advice I gave. If I'm wrong, and you know that a disc still doesn't work on a new, higher end player, I'd like to know myself, so please let me know. My e-mail: etirvan@gmail.com |

Have PS3 set up to new tele but it won't play DVD's I am getting a 'NO SIGNAL MESSAGE' on T.V. games are fine. I have heard that there are two types of HDMI cable available but am unsure of the details. I have 1 HDMI cable which i purchased and i think that is specicfically for gaming. And another which i think came with the PS3, but i get the same message regardless of which one i use.
