Smile Panasonic DMP-BD70V Blu-ray/VHS Player...Is this player any good???

Hi,

Just recently picked up a Samsung LN52B630 for for my father for Christmas. Before that he was watching his tv shows and vhs, dvd movies on a 10 year old 32 inch SHARP.

I currently have the tv hooked up with cable but not an HD box. He is kind of confused why most of the basic cable programming doesnt look as good as it did on his tube tv.
But he is amazed with the local channels in HD.
I will get him a HD cable box for him later today so his Animal Planet channel, History channel, and Discovery channels will look better on his new Samsung.

The Samsung is currently hooked up with an older DVD player and VHS player via component cables.

Since my dad has a lot of DVD's and VHS tapes i was going to get him the Panasonic DMP-BD70V Blu-ray/VHS Player.

If someone has this player can they please let me know if its worth it to purchase this or should i just go replace the old dvd player with a stand alone Blu ray player and just keep the VHS player connected with the Samsung.

Thanks

Probably not lots of folks have bought it to tell the truth and might not but it may be worth a look I suppose if you have lots of movies on VHS.

Why don't you pick it up from Best Buy or somewhere that has a similiar return policy?

I also want to know how good this model is, as I still have VHS tapes. It is for sale at SEARS but less expensive at amazon.

I was going to buy this player but I saw somewhere that it didn't handle the HD audio codecs so I went with the BD80.

PMFJI, but I'm a new user and I registered and confirmed via the email link and I thought that allowed me to post, but one of the automated emails said I can't post because I'm a new member. It gives no explanation about how I can get to the point of posting. And one of the FAQs claims as soon as you register you can start posting new threads. So I'm a bit confused. Does this forum want new users at all? If people register and then can't post a question, what good is this forum to them? I just can't find anything that indicates how to get that privilege. Can someone help me out here?

I don't know where you saw that at, but it apparently isn't true at least according to Panasonic's website. It handles the same audio codecs that the BD80 does.

There are some people who want a single unit connected to their HDTV with a single HDMI cable that can play VHS, DVD, and BD. This is that unit. If anyone is interested, the price on Amazon now is $139 delivered.

Its Panasonic, so the chances of it being multi-zoned is zilch.
