Default User Reviews: Do you write them?

I've written a few user reviews and must say I like doing so. I don't really know why in all honesty, other than perhaps giving my opinion about something I feel strongly for. I would like to write more and have thought about viewing and listening to my Blu-ray's more critically, and hopefully in time I shall.

I've noticed that it is not an easy thing to do, and I have much more respect for our resident reviewers and the task they undertake in analyzing every single aspect of a film.

What is your opinion on user reviews? Do you read them? Do you consider them? Do you compare them to the "official" review? Have you thought about submitting one or have you already?

John

I read them if there is no official blu-ray review. I think I have written a few but rarely do I write them.

I read them if they're short. I don't like reading lengthy amateur reviews, unless there is not an official Blu-ray.com review.

I mostly pay attention to the ratings on PQ and AQ.

EDIT: Oops. No, I do not write them.

I really haven't checked out many, and have not written any either. I should probably look at them more often (especially when a bluray.com review isn't yet available).

Read a few but never written one. I used to write CD reviews. It's amazing how hard it is sometimes just to say you like something.

I've written a handful. I read them, but only take into account established member's user reviews. There tend to be a bizarre amount of New Members posting overwhelmingly positive reviews in a lot of cases.

I don't bother with user reviews. I got tired of reading reviews that give 5/5 in every category because the reviewer is a fanboy for a film.

I really don't have the time to write them but I do appreciate the effort put in by some members here.

It's easy to weed out the "fanboy" reviews, and like you I don't take them into account. There's no doubt, if every review one writes is always positive, there is probably not much point in taken that opinion seriously and accurately.

User reviews are essential, in order to provide a variety of opinions on a given film. What one person sees as a glorious masterpiece will be garbage to another person, so varied reviews can help build a bigger picture for those who are unfamiliar with a product.

I tend to read user reviews now and then. I'd take them into consideration for movies that I don't already own. I'd take the official review into consideration too, but their opinion doesn't always jive with my own (come on, 2 points out of 5 for "Fight Club"?!). I have written a bunch reviews, some good and some bad (I initially wanted to review every movie I own, but it is rather difficult to remember them all and write about them. Then I wind up writing stuff that's inaccurate. So these days, I just write reviews on ones that I've seen recently and have fresh on my mind). I used to review all sorts of things on Amazon, but I got sick of the Amazon community. Seems like nothing but negativity and complainers over there.

Yeah.....What really cracks me up is someone over there will rate something a 1 b/c they messed up their shipping or it was damaged.

How about this user review from The Dark Knight

What I want to know is what's up with the person (or people) who post a review with only "aaaaa" or something in the title and body? What does that mean?!

I stop righting reviews, its stupid at times. If a movie already has over 10 reviews why bother writing one. 1. You should just give positive or negative feedback on the current reviews instead of overloading it with over 200 reviews(Dark Knight for example). 2. Hardly no one reads them, new reviewers put negative marks on everyone else's review just to raise their review to the top. I watched this behavior over and over and over. I just leave my reviews on this thread. Movie Reviews Its pointless to give a review on this site, so many people abuse the system.

I did when the site was younger and they were asking people to help I was like top 40 for awhile in reviews posted, but then I think people who liked to inflate their numbers ran me down pretty low

+1 thats the system now.

I was looking at my reviews then one day i noticed my rank dropped horribly. Some one voted negative on all my reviews just to raise their rank. Ha very funny
