I have never used or tried the Audioquest Gibralter speaker cables. I have used the Valab King and TimePortal speaker cables for some years and have been very happy with them. It may be worth a try. But, do not be surprised if the Valab cables are better. They will quite possibly be of higher quality and certainly heavier wire than the Audioquest. Rich |

Get your cables from here: http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp
You'll never notice a difference, except the cost. |

While the retail price of the cables may be over 1600, the actual cost of those cables is probably around 10 bucks. Again, save your money.

Once someone has convinced themselves that expensive cables are better than cheaper ones, you're not going to change their minds. The placebo effect will even make them believe they hear a difference, when they hook them up. Then they tell everyone else how much better it sounds. Just let them enjoy spending their money......... ![]() |

The OP asked for an opinion on these cables as he can get them for a good price. He currently uses Valab/King cables in his setup (as do I) and would like to know if it would make a difference. He didn't ask for you to crap on his thread by spewing your opinion and making it seem like those who purchase anything but cables from Monoprice are idiots. John |

John - You know that objectivists will comment whenever someone asks whether a cable that costs $1600 is worth it. Why do you always act so surprised and offended by such comments?

Because it ticks me off to be honest. Whenever a thread is started on cables/IC's/Power Cords the naysayers always crap on it and turn it into a slugfest that has nothing to do with the OP's questions or inquiries. John |

You call it "crapping". The objectivists call it "enlightening". While I understand your frustration, I doubt that angry posts are going to discourage people from weighing in on this subject one way or the other. |

I don't care where you buy your cables, monoprice, bluejeanscable, or Radio Shack. There's just no need to buy real expensive cables. It's been proven too many times that they don't sound better. People who swore they could tell a difference, couldn't tell a difference when put to an A/B test between cheap cables and expensive ones. They just embarrassed themselves. |

Well, don't give it another thought. The OP is using good Valab Kings after-all. So he's already way ahead of the game on that alone. As far as the naysayers are concerned...nayboobs!!!

On the matter of AB testing..if I have to buy equipment, accessories or anything else based on the result of such tests I'll give up on this hobby. I buy what pleases the only thing that matters...my ears. You don't have to agree, you don't have to like it, but you do have to have respect for it. It is obvious you had no respect for the question posed and chose instead to provide an opinion completely unrelated to the original post. John |

I state my opinion. I don't care if anyone believes it or not. No skin off my teeth. I have nothing to gain by lying. Usually, when a person asks for opinions like that, they're asking if they should spend the money, or save it. I told him to save it. If you tell him to spend it, he'll do whichever he's most comfortable with. I don't know the OP personally, so he can spend all his money on one cable if he wants to. I've heard your opinion, and you've heard mine. So, now we're through with it. Or, at least I am.......... ![]() |

I do know this however, I listen with a very acute ear and I listen over time, not a five-minute session. It's the same way I listen to a record, a CD or any other media before making a decision on whether the recording/mastering/performance is any good. You have to live with something for an extended period to provide a sincere opinion. Tests don't allow for that. John |
