Default Fox BD 2-Packs: PQ Recommendations?

I've been thinking about buying these two-packs:

Quote:
The Marine
Walking Tall

Planet of the Apes
Planet of the Apes

Battle of Britain
A Bridge Too Far
The question I would like to know is if anyone has had any problems with the video quality. I have a Song BDP S360 Blu-ray player and a 32" Samsung HDTV. Has anyone experienced problems with the video quality and what are your recommendations for these Blu-ray titles?

I'm considering about buying them but I have noticed that some of the reviews on the homepage of this site are sometimes off when the reviews refer to picture quality on the transfers.

I'm not too concerned with having a picture perfect copy of the movies but I want to be able to enjoy them. I just don't want to buy them if they're DVD quality because DVD quality looks horrendous when I try to play them on my system.

I dont have any of those Fox 2-packs. I did recently get a Fox 2-pack with Man on Fire/ Out of Time and it is awesome the picture quality on both are pretty good. I dont think if you bought any of these 2-packs that would be any difference if you bought them individually.

  • A Bridge Too Far and Battle of Britain are not a good buy if all you care about is the PQ since they are not great looking movies due to the source material but better than they have looked before. But out of those the best two pack as far as movie quality goes IMO.
  • The Marine and Walking Tall don't look good either and while I enjoy Walking Tall that one is really dragged down by The Marine so that one just doesn't do well for me in any regard of movies and PQ. But that also depends on just how picky you are with PQ. With something like this while not great looking Blu-Rays for me personally they still get the job done.
  • The original Planet of The Apes is the best movie out of those and also the only real bright spot of any of those movies when it comes to PQ at higher level. But the newer Planet of The Apes isn't very good and isn't great for PQ either.

Due to the two pack of Planet of Apes being brought down by the newest one I just can't suggest that one. Especially when the 40th Anniversary set that has all the originals is on sale constantly and if you want Planet of The Apes that is the way to go

So in the end my recomendation if you were to get one of those would be Battle of Britain and A Bridge Too Far if you want a two pack of some decent movies and can get over the PQ and accept it is as good as they have looked. Or there are some others like the Transporter one that fair a little better with good PQ and fun popcorn action flicks if you want to just leave your brain at the door. Obviously the best thing to do would be to check out reviews here of the individual releases and look at the screencaps to judge PQ. Movies come down to personal taste though so I never listen to reviews for that and just the PQ. And there is also a list of them here.... https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=2742

You have to be very careful about older Blu-rays from Fox, who released a large amount of MPEG-2 BDs on a single-layer BD-25 in the early days. Many of them look substandard, though some are worth the investment. Read the reviews of individual movies before buying one.
